New Canadian Collector - My Story
Hi everyone,
I found out about the NintendoAge site and forums after joining Racketboy a little while ago. It seems like a great place to buy/sell and trade with reasonable, likeminded people.
I started collecting at the beginning of summer last year. I had been playing games I'd had as a kid on emulators for a while and the emulators just weren't cutting it. I needed the real thing.
I decided to go to my parents house and pickup my SNES and all my games (figured I must still have at least 30 or so). I knew I for sure had Secret of Mana/Evermore, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, because I always said I'd never sell those and had even seen them there in the past couple years.
To my surprise, there was only the console and one beaten up controller. No games at all. I figured it wouldn't be a problem, I'll just jump on ebay and probably be able to pick up half the SNES library for 25 cents. They're old right? No one must play them anymore.
Man, I was wrong. My two favourite games growing up apparently were everyone else's as well. Earthbound and Chrono Trigger were going to cost me over $200. Not a chance was I going to pay that. I paid less than that in the 90s and got all the other stuff that came with them, like the Earthbound cards that smelled like puke!
I decided I'd purchase a lot of the cheaper games I enjoyed and focus on finding the expensive ones at flea markets and garage sales. I also ended up finding one game underneath the cabinet that the SNES was on. Chrono Trigger! So at least I still have that one.
That's pretty much what has led up to me coming here. I'm currently at 64 SNES games and I've played all but a couple, and beaten well over half if not 3/4. I'm hoping to one day have an almost complete loose cart collection, barring some of the insanely rare and expensive ones. I'd also like to beat most of them.
Aside from this hobby I work as a graphic designer and play in an amazing band.
I'm sure I'll be purchasing from many of you soon.
