Turrican!

Any Turrican fans in here?!  I just recently discovered this series and am completely in love.  I guess I was sleeping under a rock when they were released.  I have no idea how I missed these games.

Turrican, Super Turrican, Super Turrican 2 and Mega Turrican are owning my world right now.  Now, I just need to stop playing the ROMS and add them to my collection...!

**Edit*** As well as Rending Ranger, which was also made by Manfred Trenz.  Amazing!

  • Weird this is one of the first posts I see this afternoon. It just so happens that this morning I picked up super turrican 2 for $60. It seems so baddass so far. I have the first snes turrican on the way as well. Can't wait to check it out!
  • Play Turrican on the Turbografx. It is pretty bad. Controls are slippery, you can only shoot side to side, and enemies rush at you like crazy. I haven't yet tried the other games in the series, but the first one is probably one you might want to avoid. LOL
  • I love Super Turrican for NES. I have also played Mega Turrican (Genesis), which is also really good but difficult. I'm looking forward to play Super Turrican 1 and 2 for SNES.

Most of all I would like to play Turrican I and II for Amiga. That would be the dream. Both games look awesome and they have the best intro music I've heard.

    Edit:

Here are the intro musics for Turrican I and II

  • Turrican - Bleh. Why bother?

    Super Turrican - Sweet!

    Mega Turrican - Awesome!

    Super Turrican 2 - Cool.

If you like the first Turrican, you might also want to check out Universal Soldier (on the SNES and Genesis, I believe). I don't know if it was made by the same people, but it's a complete Turrican rip-off, right down to the spinning ball thing and the way power-ups are gained.
  • I have Mega Turrican on the Genesis. It's a really great game. I haven't played the others, though. I'm sure they're all pretty similar; the exception being Turrican's pathetic-ness.
  • Want to pick these up, but always trying to buy them for cheap. Could be a while .

And from what i remember rendering ranger is like $500+ I think.
  • Super Turrican is definitely the best in the series IMO. ST2 is gorgeous and fun, but adds other elements that take away from the "purity" of Turrican. Both are must-have games though. Mega Turrican is also a completely fantastic game, but falls short of both "Super" Turrican games (but still a must-own for Genesis). As far as regular Turrican goes....it's not really that great, but it is what spawned such AMAZING sequels.

Amiga would definitely be the place to play this series, since that's what it was programmed for. I don't even know anyone who owns an Amiga though.

    Austin, I'll checkout Universal Soldier...

    Kody, congrats on your purchase!

Alex, yes Rendering Ranger is $500 and only available on Super Famicom.  I wear it out on my Xbox's emu though..
  • Yeah ive played it some on my pc with snes controller port. I collect super famicom games mostly and the turrican series is even more expensive there. Maybe one day ill get all 3 :X (not bloody likely lol)
  • I just played "Universal Soldier".  My suspicions were confirmed...lol....it is indeed the game made for the Van Damme  / Dolf Lundgren movie...haha.

It's actually kinda fun...but definitely a cheaper generic ripoff of Turrican.
  • Universal Soldier looks good - similar to the NES version of Super Turrican and probably to the Amiga version. Thanks for the tip!

Don't be confused though--Super Turrican is way, way better than Universal Soldier.

Still, Universal Soldier is probably better than the first Turrican (Turbo Grafx, Genesis, etc.).

  • Only played Super Turrican for the NES and its a blast. Fun fact: It was developed by one man, Manfred Trenz himself.

Btw. works fine on NTSC consoles:

Gotta check some more Turrican games.
