Video Game "Mastery"
Are there any games you have ever loved so much that you wanted to go just beyond being able to see the end and instead, truly mastering it? I'm not talking about beating it without getting a game over (even though in many circumstances that's what you've already done if you've beaten a game), but doing a no-death run, getting to the kill screen, not taking damage, etc.
About a year and a half ago, I did a no-death run of Castlevania and, about a month later, of Trojan. The few times I've played Castlevania since, now I usually die after Death (ironic) and on the last stage before Dracula. That goes to show that it doesn't take long to get a little rusty even after you've mastered a game.
So back to my original question, have any of you "mastered" a game? Do you even want to?

I'm also working on Kaizo/Asshole Mario but it's proving itself tough. I'm down to about 100 deaths per run with the help of savestates. Hopefully I can get to no savestate help by the end of the year. Competitively I'm working on Team Fortress 2, but that's not exactly a "Masterable" game. Starcraft II I have given up all hope on.
- LoZ: OoT ; Complete the game completely blindfolded the whole time
- LoZ: OoT ; Not using a sword throughout the whole game.
These are just a couple of them but she has plans for other challenges similar to these.
I mean either she has no life or she's really good at this game.
A challenge thread would be cool too.
I forgot to mention my all diddy heads 101% dkc and my all blue flags 103% dkc3
I've also no deathed Marble Madness (and beat the current posted world record, though I didn't record my playthrough).
The game that inspired this feeling in me was final fantasy II for the SNES. After beating it, i decided to find all the items and get max hp/mp , then to do it all again in under 70 hrs. including finding the pink jelly in the last dungeon!!

I have mastered Color a Dinosaur! Come to think of it I have never died or even taken damage. I should record my playthrough sometime.
For sure!! a no death, no damage speed run would be sick!
Ninja Gaiden - no deaths, no damage except one hit from last boss
Ninja Gaiden 2 - no deaths
Mega Man 2 - no deaths
Mike Tyson's Punch Out - beaten without taking any damage
Super Mario Bros. 1 - Beaten in under 5:30
California Games - Beaten or tied all scores listed on Twin Galaxies
Kung Fu - Beaten 6 times consecutively, scored over 1 million points

I never could get those damn things to appear. I love that game but never got the Adamant armor. I ran out of patience.
When taken into consideration, I tend to think I have mastered Super Mario Bros. as well. I've beaten the entire game with no deaths, no warp zones, and only taking damage once. I don't know if that's considered mastery though. Especially because it is Super Mario Bros. It's not that impressive.
I've beaten the "illusion part" of Ghosts 'n Goblins before without dying. I ended up dying on the second time through the third level and a few other times on the last level.

You might be surprised at how many people haven't beat Super Mario

I've made it through Mike Tyson's Punch Out while beating every boxer in the first round and not taking a single punch. I don't think there's much improving on that.
Did you take any damage from blocking?

Haha, oh yeah! I remember that thread!!
Oh, and does Ocarina of Time with three hearts count as mastery? I think that's a pretty common feat as well.
and as some of you know , if you beat the game , you can beat it 2 other ways for a total of 3 times
all of the endings are diff and the story line changes a bit mainly based on colors magic spell codes
