Tecmo Bowl Variations

Hello NA,



I have been wondering about this for a while. In the original Tecmo Bowl the Indianapolis team has Eric Dickerson as running back and Albert Bently as kick returner. then there are versions with Bently as the running back and someone else returning kicks and no dickerson. as far as i know this is the only roster difference for any of the teams . I have the one with bently as RB but also want to have a copy with Dickerson as well. Not that they play any different but just to have both.



So here is the question... Is there a way to tell the versions apart just on the outside of the cart without playing it??

    The label code. -1 has Bentley.

    (and Verdin is the kick returner on the Bentley RB version)

    They also might have different nintendo seal of quality colors....

    I've got 3 versions here: round seal, oval seal and oval seal -1.



    round seal - Dickerson RB



    oval seal - Dickerson RB



    oval seal -1 - Bentley RB

    assuming this qualifies as a "programming" change, the back labels should be different: the later version with Bentley would have an "A" stamped in (in addition to the numeric plant code). the first version with Dickerson would not have a letter stamp.

    So i guess the only logical next question would be why did they make the change for dickerson and noone else

    IIRC, Dickerson was in some sort of dispute with the NFL Players Association. B/C he wasn't a member at the time, they could use his name in their licensing agreement.



    Same reason Jim Kelley and Randall Cunningham are listed as QB Bills and QB Eagles in Tecmo Super Bowl.
