Birthday soon

I usually get around 100-150 from my mom for my birthday (my dad gets me the boring clothes stuff) and I was wanting to put it all towards games. This Christmas I spent all my money on games, mostly NES and a few SNES games which I wasn't too excited over (Equinox, Plok, and Brain Lord) so I thought I might focus on SNES over NES this time.

I don't really want any high priced items, as I'm rebuilding my old collection. I would like some multiplayer games, games you can just pick up and play, and some RPGs. I plan on getting Silent House, which I'm looking forward to.

What are some good action RPGs, fighting, side scrollers for the NES/SNES?

  • My fav multiplayer / co op games for snes. Sunset riders (even though price has gone up outrageously lately...) the best side scroller shooter on snes imho say what you will. Kill instinct my fav fighting game on snes, all the donkey kong countrys.Awesome multiplayer fun is super bomberman. kirby dreamland 3 has fun co op. Nosferatu is an underrated sidescroller no ones played lol.
  • Secret of Mana! about to finish a run with a housemate. It can be two player, which varies by availability (e.g. if they are not around you can still play it as one-player) and it'd call it an action RPG, a damn good one at that. I know this is a bit pricy but I'd like to believe you can pick one up for less than $20. Hell, it was worth every bit of the $69 price tag when we got it new nearly 20 years ago.
  • If you want a good pick-me-up 2 player SNES game, you can't go wrong with Zombies Ate My Neighbors!
  • Turtles in Time!
  • Pocky & Rocky. Buy it; you won't be disappointed.
  • Check out Super Mario Kart, Tetris Attack, NBA Jam T.E.edition, Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Contra III. All great two-player games.
  • I dont know about any 2 player games ... but as far as rpgs :

NES - Cant go wrong with Dragon warrior (1-4) and final fantasy. Ghost lion is there as well but its honestly a horrible game. 3 Ultima games but the only one Id be willing to recommend is Quest of the avatar.

SNES - Much better options here. Final fantasy 2&3 are awesome. Chrono Trigger is a great game with a lot of replay. Tecmo Secret of the stars is cool too. The Ultima game isnt all that impressive on this system either. Mystic quest is on the same lines as Ghost lion to me (very beginner level) but a bit more fun. Ys III isnt a bad option if you prefer the fighting style of that one. Super mario RPG is unique and fun too.

I may have missed a few but thats what comes to the top of my head atm.
  • For 2 player co-op snes games I like:

    Goof Troop

    Contra 3

    Turtles in Time

    Zombies Ate My Neighbors

    King of Dragons

Double Dragon/Battletoads (preference goes to DD)

    Rock n Roll Racing
