Is dragon quest 8 worth it

So, I really enjoyed DW 1 and 4 15 years ago, and somewhat (less then 1 and 4) enjoyed 7 a few years ago. Now I have a copy DQ8 and I'm wondering if its worth it to go through the hassle of finding my PS2 and a working controller to play it. Is it enjoyable or they just totally dropped the ball with it?

  • It's totally worth it. Trust me. I am a huge Dragon Quest fan, and I loved DQVIII.
  • The best console DQ ever made along with the DQIII remake for the SNES in my humble opinion.
  • I just purchased this game last week because of the Clan of the Gray Wolf video he just posted. And so far I like it alot. Believe it or not this is the first time playing any Dragon Quest or Dragon Warrior games and I definitely recommend it.

I was just about to quote that myself. He gave it a glowing review. At the price it currently goes for, there's not a lot of reason to *not* try it. It's super-cheap.
  • It's amazing. Fantastic art work, truly funny dialogue, great balance (if you can stomach occasional grinding). One of the reasons I started playing video games again after a 10 year hiatus.
  • Oh hell yeah.

Best Dragon Quest game ever man
  • I would definitely recommend playing it man. That's the only Dragon Quest I've ever played and really enjoyed it. The game art is awesome and something you'll like a lot if you're into games with cell-shading.
  • Awesome game, Totally worth it ! Heck I pre-ordered this badboy back in the day.
  • Cor-Blimey!! Yes, guv, you should definitely play the game. One of my top favorite RPGs ever. Skies of Arcadia being the other one that I love.
  • I am a definite DW/DQ fan and VIII is certainly one of the top games. If you have a chance, pick up DWVII too. Its great too.
  • It's easily one of the best games on the PS2 which is saying something considering there's a ton of great games in the library, RPGs in particular. Be prepared though, it's a really long ass game, even by RPG standards but it's worth every minute of it.
  • Dragon Quest VIII is not only one of the greatest DQ games, but also one of the greatest PS2 games.
  • Hell yeah, it's worth it. One of the best games I've EVER played. You'll love it.
  • IMO DQ8 was the best DQ game and possibly the best RPG on the Playstation 2. So yes! This game is amazing. Also if you can't seem to find a working PS2 controller LMK cause I got like 6 of them (and only 1 console)
  • i mean jessica in a stripper outfit COME ON!
  • All these people seem to love the game must have the game because I can't even move a copy of it I have for $10 and it even has the FF12 demo in it and that throw away cardboard sleeve for the game box.

I don't have a PS2, probably never will again otherwise I'd just play the damn game at this rate.
  • DQ8 isn't hard to come by and you can find them for $10 a copy these days. Very over produced
  • Yeah that's for sure. I dropped $5 on mine hoping I had something. It'll just sit until I decide to take a loss, install PCFX2 to my laptop or I throw it out at this rate. I recall it being a truly fantastic game from other peoples stories but also a drag as it takes like 100hours or more.
  • I bought the game on day one paying full retail for it, and have invested around 160 hours in the game. Amazing game for sure and definitely worth the 55 bucks I paid for it. DQ8 is in my top 3 favorite RPGs of all-time.
  • Dragon Quest VIII is pretty awesome. I'm someone who has completed I, II, III, VIII, and IX and I think it's my favorite out of these. It's long, but not 100 hours long, unless you intend to do absolutely everything. I think it only took my about 70 hours to beat the game and a bunch of the bonus bosses after the ending.
  • The character interactions basically make this game. It's a must-play, definitely. My only complaint is that it's a fairly easy game with no real reason to grind until you get to the final boss who's tough as nails (if you haven't built up your job skills).
  • It's definitely a great game, just prepare for a decent amount of grinding. One of my favorite artwork visuals for anything on the PS2.
