Wii/VC Games

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out an annoyance with playing Virtual Console games on the Wii...

Just to simplify/consolidate consoles and such around my TV...I'm trying to be open-minded a bit here and give the Wii a chance to handle some of the popular NES/SNES/N64 games I like to play.

I've tried using GameCube controllers, but some games aren't just too friendly with the button mappings and locations of the buttons on the controller itself.

I just picked up a Classic Controller (one that plugs into the WiiMote) and it's a lot better with Super Contra...but that split second lag is just brutal for games that require perfect timing (MTPO for example).

I think a good solution would be one that allows the Classic Controller to plug directly into the GameCube port on the Wii. Eliminate lag for good.

I found this:

Which seems it would be a true wired solution and would potentially eliminate lag, so I don't look horrible getting beat up by Bald Bull for no good reason.

Has anyone tried wiring other controllers into the Wii's GameCube ports? I think it would be awesome to be able to use each platform's controller for its respective VC game. Please chime in on what works for you on a modern (LED) TV and the Virtual Console. I'd rather not spend a bunch of money just trying stuff out to see what works best or not

Thanks everyone
