So i recently picked up NHL Slapshot for my wii thinking i could use a somewhat current hockey game.



I saw it had a roster update option so I was like Hells yeah I'll just pop in and get the 2012 rosters to replace the 2010 ones that are in the game...

NOPE

EA KILLED THE SERVERS MID 2011 or so my googlefu  tells me

    The poll pretty much sums it up.



    EA buys up IP from small companies and upstarts, typically laying off the original developers in the process, and then turns ideas which had the potential to be great, into crap. Case-in-point, a little known company by the name of Maxis made one of the best computer simulations every made, SimCity2000. I played it religiously in High School, and had my own towns and everything. EA later bought out Maxis and their simulation engine; now they mostly release garbage like the Sims series: bringing the monotony of daily life to your video game console. And don't get me started on their sports titles, releasing basically the same game year after year with few improvements, at 50-60 dollars retail.

    Activision is all around worse. EA may kill support faster so it's more fresh with people, but Activision makes the shittiest games over all. By FAR. Tony hawk, Guitar Hero, and Call of Duty..enough said. All three have been run into the ground because they couldn't let up and maybe, oh wait, IMPROVE something.

    Oh, there are worse game companies when it comes to releasing crap games. EA sucks b/c they are a shady, underhanded, ruthless corporation. Their exclusivity deal w/ the NFL is just one of many many examples. They tried to strong-arm the Sega of America president in order to get EA Sports an exclusive deal w/ the Dreamcast (no other companies would be allowed to release sports games on the DC). This is what caused the 2K sports line to be created: to make better sports games than EA in part as a big  F-U to EA.

    Everyone hates EA. I never forgave them for killing the Command and Conquer series. The series was awesome when Westwood Studios owned it, and even the first EA C&C series (Generals) was okay. Everything after that was a disgrace to the C&C name though....

    No surprise there. Whether it's EA or anyone else, this is how games are headed. I'd be surprised if it still played at all

    Well I used to joke they were the Evil Alliance. They'd come in and mow down companies for talent and perhaps the location and whoever wasn't in the minority of interest was pink slipped. When I was at Midway we came out with that original release of NHL Hitz 2002 and it did some damage to EA in hockey sales as our product was fun. Seeing that we farmed out to Blackbox Games to make it, they went after all was said and done and bought out the company for a very good sum of cash, canned all our projects, and in a matter of short time laid off a majority of the employees but kept the Canadian office as it was useful. I've never been a huge fan of them since that point as that was just shady as all get out.



    That said I can't deny I do enjoy a select few of their games, and they don't do the junk Activision pulls these days where I won't even buy their stuff anymore so I do selectively get a few of EAs games still. I'd rather have some fun if I can find it there you know?

    ^ well, I wouldn't buy their games... except they went and bought out my favorite game company 



    So I guess I'll keep buying their games until they finish destroying it... heh

    I must admit I do and did like the Timesplitters series which is EA...



    But I was furious after what they did to SPORE...



    I bought the galactic edition Mistake #1

    I installed it 3 times in 2 weeks over 2 machines once because of a graphics driver issue, There went my 3 installs, so the DRM prevented me from installing.

    So I downloaded a pirate version with a hacked Serial, Deleted the hacked Serial notepad file without looking much at it and Installed the DRM free Pirate version with my legal CD KEY
