DS Lite Hardware defect

The other night some friends and I got together for some multiplayer Metroid Prime Hunters and I noticed 4 out of the 6 DS lite consoles there had busted hinges.  Only mine and my friends gf had good hinges. One was due to a drop, but the other 3 tell me it just sort of happened over time where the hinge would just crack and that was it...



 Based on this It seems like it's a more common occurance than I originally though, has this happened to anyone here? How do I avoid this?

    My sisters screen broke, my cousin broke his hinge too. I'd kust buy a new case, they're pretty cheap.

    I have never had issues with my DS Lites hinge.

    A broken hinge on a DS Lite is a pretty common occurrence.

    As 3GenGames stated replacement cases are cheap.

    awhile ago, when DS Lites were still the best available model, Nintendo did free repairs on broken hinges as it was such a common issue.

    Eh, I might as well just buy a DSi or a 3DS at this point anyway.
