Legend of Grimrock

Anyone here play Legend of Grimrock?

It's a new RPG but it has an old school feeling to it, kind of like Ultima or Might and Magic

It also has a unique magic system where you arrange runes in a pattern to cast spells

just came out (On PC)

  • I wish I could remember the name of the game, but there was a DOS game back in the mid-90's that had a similar magic system.

You used the keyboard, and each letter was associated with a different word depending on which syllable it was applied to.

Once you deciphered what the different partial words meant you could cook-up your own spells. It was very cool.
  • Saw it on steam yesterday, gonna pick it up soon. Looks awesome. Love the old style first person adventure RPGs like the the original Might & Magics, Eye of the Beholder, etc...
  • So it's hard to tell from the video, is it semi-realtime like Eye of the Beholder and Menzoberanzan? Or is it fully turn-based like Might and Magic and Wizardry?

Yeah, it just weighs kind of heavily on when I'd buy it, since playing with a trackpad would kind of suck if it was real-time.

  • sent you a PM Arch.

For anyone else thats curious about this game its def worht picking up. Its first person adventure ala Eye of the Beholder or the old Might and Magic games on PC. The character movement is forward, back, left, right, one black at a time just like those old games. Battles are in real time rather then turn based however your characters do have a countdown timer just like the early FF games before you can attack again. Really cool graphics and monsters. Character creation and advancement are just like the old D&D games where you roll your core stats and perform based on those. Good stuff so far. Only 2 hours in but really enjoying it for $15.
  • Sweet to see this finally released! When I saw the trailer it reminded me of a polished modern-remake of the 90s game Stonekeep. God, I used to play that game for hours and hours. Very difficult to beat without the guide.

You're right.  It really does look like an HD Stonekeep.
