No kidding -- its crazy out there right now.

We'll take some of that water down here in Georgia -- we're still hurting even after our recent storms. This is the main water supply for Atlanta and N Florida / Alabama.

  • holy shat..im in chattanooga, and had no idea it was that bad! Guess i should get off NA

ever once in a while and check the news.
  • I admit, that is an extreme photo -- its definitely a more shallow cove on the lake, but there are other areas on the lake with significant drops in water level -- overall ~19 feet down. My folks live on the lake, but they are in a deep water cove with still around 30 ft of water. And it's gotten slightly better lately with recent storms, but we're in for a long hot summer already hitting 100 around here.

The water levels are caused the drought and by poor management by the army corp of engineers -- the entire lake is run by them, and they recently came out and said one mistake led to 22 billions gallons accidentally released.

  • The water levels aren't entirely the fault of the corp of engineers.

The city planners did an absolute shit job regulating growth to prevent excessive water usage.

Plus all the dumb-fucks that feel the need to water their lawn every day. I lived in Atlanta

for about 6 years, and know the kind of waste that's going on there. Hopefully this drought

will drive it home to people to not feel so entitled to wash their car or water their lawn.

Both activities are a total waste.
  • Update:  I found a Wii locally.  image

About the flood...  Heres a couple photos of the mile long bridge I drive across every day on my way to class, and the marina next to it.   They finally had to open the flood gates at the dam earlier this week, and all that water poured into the river and is the cause of the flooding in downtown Des Moines.

  • I agree - the corp isn't completely to blame. There are a number of factors -- it's just easy to point a finger and blame the captain.

And I don't disagree with the regulating growth and wasteful water usage. In the past few years there's been an "outdoor watering ban" that has been generally ignored. Recently its been getting enforced more aggressively, at least in the city limits and some surrounding metro areas. But even still there are definitely some areas that are still ignoring the ban to water their lawns... it drives me crazy, especially when riding around lake lanier.

And let's not forget about the terrible city of atlanta water system. it made the list for Popular Mechanics "10 Pieces of U.S. Infrastructure We Must Fix Now"

I love living here, but the city needs to get their act together

Glad you got your wii!  Sorry for hijacking your post to discuss the water problems down here image

Those pics are crazy -- i just saw some more damage of the flooding on cnn.com.
  • Wow...that's some nasty flooding. I live in a coastal area now (Hampton, VA), and hope to never see anything that severe, though I understand it happens every few decades.
