Winter Olympics for Mega Drive

Just curious if anyone knows the story on this, or if there are other games with a similar sticker?  It's basically just an oval sticker on the outside of the clamshell that says 'For play on Sega Genesis and Sega Mega Drive' and there is a broken sega seal on the side where the shell opens.

  • I have the same one. Mine's got the sideways pal manual and a merch catalog for some olympics swag that SA says is the Limited Edition version for Europe. Now I'm wondering how/why they ended up here.
  • those type of stickers are common stickers on our European megadrive games. The megadrive has the advantage that it can play genesis games aswell, hence the sticker. The broken sega seal is like todays xb 360 games its a security sticker to show the game is still sealed and new. all mega drive games had em

@dballin, the olympics game here in europe had two versions standard and limited edition, the limited edition came with the little brochure you got and is somewhat harder to find, so nice one.

Same as me, alot of genesis games end up here aswell. I guess people just like to import and trade different types.
  • Its basically just saying what system its for is all. Remember its called "Mega Drive", everywhere but NA, so it also says "Genesis." I have seen some games, but not this one, and accessories that have something like that on it. Genesis can play PAL games, you just need a Master Key thing I have been told, OR use a Game Genie and use certain codes that override the region lockout, but as it says in the FAQ for it, its imperfect. Me personally, I would just get a MD from that region, I really want a Japanese MD Model 1 myself, I have always wanted a Japanese console.
  • I have this too, though without the SEGA seal on the seam of the clamshell. But it's got the huge oval sticker, and the spine and cart say "Mega Drive". I wonder why so many copies of this game are import-ish?
  • The funny thing about this is that it is region free but the US version is just a regular PCB while the PAL version is a glob top. I'm guessing that they dumped the extras over here to the states. Not sure why they decided to ink up the insides and why the covers and manuals were never changed.
  • Could have been released in that format in Canada, and some copies have trickled down into the US. I've seen a couple kicking around, and i also live in Upstate New York. So i would gamble this is the most likely case.
  • ^That thought crossed my mind too. dcdan is in Missouri, but all the other US posters so far have been from the Northeast, so maybe they dumped product originally intended for Québec in the NE?
