Chiller NES Game Not Working

I recently just bought a copy of Chiller for $40 at a local store in mint condition. I decided to give the game a try by putting in into my NES, and the screen was blocky and was silent. I cleaned out the cartridge using q tips and a windex solution, but it didn't help at all. I then had the game in the system. I pressed reset several times, and the screen went clear, but was frozen. I am not sure what the problem is since I tried everything and do not want to open the cartridge just yet. I would return it, but for two reasons I will not. The first is that it is a hard game to find and I doubt I will ever find another copy, especially in this condition. The second is that I will not get a cash refund, in which defeats the purpose of returning it (for me). Please if you have any help, please let me know. Thanks for any input given.

    Open the cart to make sure it looks good, maybe clean the connector with the case off. Is it the blue or greyish version? Mine is the grey and it flashes once and takes a second to load. I think the blue cart is different somehow. (region maybe?)

    top loader or front loader? Some unlicensed games won't play on top loaders

    I haven't taken it apart yet. I probably will do it tomorrow. It is the grey cart. I had it flash like you said but it doesn't stop

    It is the Licensed NES Toploader. Could be a possibility.

    Do not use Windex to clean your carts, 70% rubbing alcohol on a Q to clean the pins.

    Or take it apart and rub with a rubber eraser.. Lots of grime will build up right where the cartidge ends and even a qtip cant get at it.

    I still need to find a small star tip to open up the game. It wants to start but freezes, so I think it's just dirt.
