Marker on Carts?

Hey all, my girlfriend suggests i clean my carts since i didnt believe they were dirty till she took some windex on a cloth and wiped one to show all the crap that was on it :S So since then ive actually been cleaning my collection, doubles and triples. But very few in my collection have marker on them, but lots of my doubles do; was wondering if anyone knows a good remedy to remove marker?



I bought Goof Off (not goo gone) from The Home Depot. Tried it on one of my doubles i was gonna clean when i noticed it actually was eating the plastic :S



Wondering if i can get some tips for getting marker off, and if there is any way to tell if its perminant marker or not (if it makes a difference)?



I gave up on the marker for now, so hopefully you guys can help me out Been rocking the blow dryer taking off stickers since trying the goof off.



PS: Anyone sell the drill bits cheap to remover backs, lost mine while swapping a bunch for someone on here.

    Like a combo of the two? Cause i use isopropanol with q-tips and it still left black from the marker on it and i gave up, thats why i turned to the goof off, which i think i will return to home depot and get my mom flowers for tomorrow with the credit.

    Alas I tried some Nail polish remover, and it bleached the cart, so don't do that also alas it was my Megaman 2 :S

    I've used Mr. Clean Magic Erasers on several carts with marker. It took the marker right off with very little effort.

    There not a mark or stain I haven't been able to remove in about 3 seconds.

    Magic erasers sound easiest. I'll pick some up, but another stupid thing to ask is which type. I assume original but I want to make sure. Thanks guys for the help so far

    I use something similar to what Holy-SNES mentioned. Different brand, but a citrus cleaner with a microfiber cloth. It takes a little while, but works well. I've used Magic Erasers before, and they work both quickly and effectively, HOWEVER, realize that magic erasers work by acting like very fine sandpaper. If you scrub too much it WILL smooth out the texture on your cart, and you may end up with a flat, smooth surface on your cart from where you were working.

    I use rubbing alcohol and a pink eraser. Dip eraser in the alcohol and rub lightly on marker area.

    rubbing alcohol and q tips works well for cleaning but once you work on the label its better to be careful with any harmful chemicals, i would take the ideas for an eraser and citro clean

    The magic Eraser is the best method I have found. Be cautious when using the Magic Eraser. If you scrub the cart for an extended period of time, it will sand the cart smooth.

    So no one knows the easy method? Use the magic eraser if the ink lifts off easily, but if it doesn't, it will polish the plastic like others have mentioned. If the ink is stubborn, use DOT 3 brake fluid. dab it on the inked area, watch the ink start to run. Use a magic eraser to pull up the loose ink. Repeat until clean, which widely varies depending on the ink.



    This method will not affect the plastic. Try to avoid getting it on the label (especially N64 since they don't have the protective plastic like NES/SNES) and it can make the ink run. Also water wipe/dry brake fluid off the cart when finished and you will be fine.



    NOTE: I have run in to some black marker that reacts with cart plastic, and turns the grey plastic brown, which remains even after the ink is completely removed. Nothing can be done with those, unless retro brite or something can revert the colors.
