WTB: Original Solar Wars Homebrew Cart

I've seen the images of the cart before... white label.  Looking to buy and willing to pay $100 + shipping.
Thanks

  • good luck with that, really I think someone here was making one that said repro cart on it. It's a pretty weird release. Chris Covell doesn't remember ok'ing the run, I believe the Person who made them was Jeff Davidson, and about 30 ish or so were made. I'm still trying to get in contact with jeffD, but I still haven't been able to complete the info on this. It's more like a game that someone just made some copies for people with.
  • Covell didn't have anything to do with it? I find that odd.
  • I made a repro of it. Haven't seen anyone looking to get rid of a real one.
  • interesting story. I had no idea that Covell never gave a go ahead on this. Still would like on though.
  • Well, Covell's site is still up, and he has the code there and instructions on how to make your own cart. In the useage terms, he states you're free to make personal copies, but they're not to be sold for profit without his consent.

Now, thw white label cart was made I believe by jeffD and sold on the nesdev boards several years ago.

I contacted Chris trying to figure out if he knew who made it or anything and he didn't recall anyone doing it. Someone on these boards sent me an archived email from who he bought his(jeffD), and it states something to the effect that Chris Covell burned the eproms for him.

So, either someone (Chris) just has a bad memory, or someone was lying, or something. This is one release that I just don't have a lot of solid information on. The Garage Cart has the only for sure know distributed version, but I list the white label for now because there was obviously a run, and I'm trying to confirm if it was Ok'd or kinda pirated. I've tried to Contact Jeff, but he seems to fallen out of the scene and has proven hard to track down.

I'd really like to figure it out, because Solar Wars pre-dates the Garage Cart, and if a kosher release, Solar Wars is really the first Nes homebrew to make it to a release on a cart.

To another affect, I'm not sure if LeonK's Bombersweeper was sanctioned or not either, as Kent Hanson disappeared for a long time, though I don't think Leon would reproduce someones work without consent. I should ask him sometime.
