SE just seems to be the oddball of the bunch for pricing. Most games have gone up in value, as expected, but no other game that I can think of has gone up 200%+ in this amount of time. And no one can point the finger at me on this one -- I've been trying to get people to *stop* buying it so I can get one cheaper!
The SE manual, regardless of price, is rarer than the cart. So if the cart sells for $1,500, in theory it should sell for a lot more than that. In practice, people have a harder time paying that much paper for, uh, paper.
I (like everyone else) am after a box and manual, but I've almost completely written off ever locating a box, so I can't justify throwing down on a manual.

I disagree dain. There are lots of other examples. I bought my sealed myriad for $700 2.5 years ago. What do you think that would get now? A lot more than a 200% increase I would bet. The snes rpg's sealed have done that kind of price increase too.. plus 2 years ago you could get a CIB F2 for $300... what's that going to cost you now? 5 years ago a CIB chubby cherub went for a monstrous $33 in the dlcollectibles sale etc etc etc. the quality stuff has all surged, it isn't an isolated occurence to this one game although obviously this one has done well and is the worst offender.
F2 has shown slightly higher than 100% gain, not 200% (its settling at a 100% gain, CIB, and in decent condition). As for sealed Myriad, there are zero numbers for calculating a percentage increase in the last 2 years, so that's moot. The last CIB sold (here, on NA) for a little more than the price I paid for it sealed (which was the last sealed to be sold, 2 years ago), whereas the last CIB SE sold for more than double the price of the last sealed SE sold for. We could assume a sealed SE at this point would break the 200% barrier easily, seeing as a CIB sold for somewhere between 7-8K.
Chubby Cherub has already started to drop drastically, as seen by the last few that have sold. The high prices for CC was likely due to hype (the "NA" effect) and Erik at the time looking for one, willing to pay basically anything. The same thing sort of happened with SE: Erik paid more than anyone previously (for cart-only, then CIB), and ever since, cart-only hasn't dropped much. I think it will, and if it doesn't, it further proves my point -- it's an exception that doesn't make sense. So, in turn, I'll disagree that it does actually stand out as being an exception in price inflation.
we can spin the numbers any way we like if we use this specific example or that one. But there's no denying that quality material has gone up 50 - 300 % depending on what it is in the last couple of years. Surely you'd agree with that?
As for chubby, again we can spin it any way we like. Another way to look at it might be that I sold mine for 1200 and not a year later that copy was resold privately here for what, 2200 or something? should it be a $500 CIB, maybe not, but its not exactly an ugly duckling either.
Yeah, we can definitely agree on that. I think where I'm stuck at is that with SE (and certain other games) it had an almost "set" price, $500, for a good amount of time. Turn the page and it's literally $1,700. Chubby and other games that have inflated didn't really have a going rate per se, and so hype and other factors directly influenced their price hike. With SE, it was known all along how rare it was and yet the price instantly jumped 200%. I guess that's my point -- games that have had a known scarcity/value typically haven't jumped 200% in 2 years. Even the Gold NWC has risen gradually (albeit a lot, but not 200% instantly and without reason).
blah blah blah about prices and too high and whatnot. i still say this easily sells. also, about the economy... yes, it is down, and it doesnt show much hope for rebounding in the near future, but that didnt stop me from making a $1500 purchase recently! however, i am getting a lot more than simply 1 manual! haha. retardless, i say this manual sells! lets see!
So far I have had around 20 assholes tell me I am selling for to high and it should be worth $50-100 tops. I guess they dont have anything better to do then cyber harass me. I think it will sell and it has helped me sell all my other games i have listed.
jason, it IS only worth $50-100. and just cuz im a nice guy, i will offer you $500 for it. but you are right... the free publicity with the auction will help you sell every other auction that you have listed!
People get jealous when they can't have something, and I'm sure a 1500$ price tag is going to keep all of the dickheads that have been bothering you from ever having one of these. Fuck 'em.
I'll probably never have an SE manual, but I hope you make a mint off of this thing.
The only thing that will prevent me from having this manual in my collection is my personal unwillingness to spend that much on a manual (at least right now). If I get to the point that an SE box and manual are the only things I need for a set, then I'll plunk down the cash.
Right now $1500 would acquire me a metric crap-ton of the other games I still need.

I agree people shouldnt email complaining about the price. And Jason dont take this the wrong way, im speaking about all gaming stuff in general. A game, manual, box, accessorie is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I can stick my home on the market for 1 million dollars but if no one is willing to pay it it isnt going to sell. There from what I can tell only a very very small handful of people that could even think about spending any where near that amount. I t would be nice to see you sell it so you can take your family on vacation but unless one of the few big spenders by it I cany see it selling.

Bronty, I bet you are glad that the sealed showed up two years ago and not now...

And if you wanna buy a possible scam to go with your manual
