so you do plan on actually selling it at some point
I do have that in mind, but I have been thinking about selling all my original Star Wars toys for the last 10 years and have not yet done it......and to be honest I doubt I will.
One problem that I have is that I have arthritis developing in my hands so if they get worse like my Mothers arthritis I doubt I will be able to use the joypads that well so wont be able to enjoy my collection really. I already struggle sometimes if I play too long as my hands will seize up the next day.
No, of course I wouldn't sell my PlayStation collection. There is more than just money invested in my games. I am probably set for life with these games.
Obviously, there is a price at which I would sell my collection, but it would have to be enough to cover the repurchase of all the games!
i am a single 30+ dude and also very often depressed, when i lay in bed and all is dark and i am the loneliest person in the world i can think of my collection which i love and cherish and that makes me feel better, then all memories about good games and memories how i got them.
i doubt that any doctor would tell someone "spend all your money on old videogames and you will feel better" but i works for me.
so ofcourse i wouldn't sell my collection for anything, maybe for 750% it's market value but if i did i think i wouldregret it and buy every single game again but then i would have no memories.
I understand this completely. I suffer from depression and have an addictive personality so going out on my gaming quests helps a heck of a lot. Its gets me out of the house, gives me something to do and satisfies my addiction.
You're in the hobby for the wrong reason if you would sell your collections, seriously.
ShovelThumb! You can't assume someone is collecting for the wrong reason if they would consider selling. Collections are always changing and so is life! Nobody knows what's round the corner and what situation you may find yourself in. Some people have to sell as they have no other choice. I have had days were I've thought shall I just sell all this stuff. At the end of the day it's just material stuff when alls said and done! You can't take it with you. Please understand I'm not gonna part with my collection any time soon as it would upset me too much. I collect because I really like the psp system and also because I enjoy it. When I stop enjoying collecting and no longer like the psp I will sell up.

I mean, people who just collect to eventally sell a complete collection for profit or whatever are just lame, I mean how can you contemplate selling everything you've amassed so far and the adventures you've had to obtain some of your stuff? I would never sell my stuff even if I was really in dire financial straits becaue I know I could never replace it all and feel the same way, if I did sell then I would not get some of my stuff back because it's just near on impossible to find. Mind you, we do search for different things in the psp market so maybe we share slightly different views. Just my opinion I mean I'm not trying to argue I just don't like the idea of building a collection and then contemplate selling it just doesn't make any sense to me.
Saying your in the hobby for the wrong reason because you would sell isn't a fair statement, i recently had to sell my collection i didn't plan on it it's just sometimes life throws you a curve ball and decissions have to be made. I'm not happy i hd to sell but it was done for good reason. Upside in a few months when the dust clears i can start over again
i knew a friend of mine who had a very big collection of games close to 3000 games, his whole flat was full of them, you know what happened? his rent was behind and he had to start selling, now he has less than half of his collection left and there is nothing he can do about it (he never recoved from his loss) , when the times comes to sell your collection and you had no choice you have to sell.
i've had to sell my game collection in the past too when i was robbed of my consoles and other stuff my games had to go, i never got over that because i had so many dreamcast and ps1 games back then, i have most of them back but some of them i will never get back ever again.
so the point i am trying to make is when you have to sell, you have to sell, but for now enjoy your collections as much as you can while you still have it, when a hard finical time comes along it's time to say goodbye.
anyways on topic, if i was offered any value of money in the world i wouldn't sell, why? because like people have already said, my collection hold personal value as well of finical too of course, i am very proud of my massive game collection and wouldn't want that to change.
I've needed cash quick so have had to sell gems off over the years. My collection has grown large at points and I've (not on purpose) cut it down for cash.
When you have things that need the money thrown at them the material things have to come second I think.
Anyone sold anything and later regretted it? Or not been able to find it again? Has that topic been covered before?
I would happily sell all things in my collection if it meant spending a happy life with a caring Asian girl.
maybe the girl (Yuna) in your avatar is free at the moment? she seemed caring to me!
She is. But her heart belongs to Tidus, doesn't it? No... I would say that my Asian dreamgirl would be Ueto Aya. If you've ever heard of her... She plays Azumi in the movies "Azumi" and "Azumi 2: Death or Love". Oh, and she's a singer, model and fashion designer, as well!
As Xed knows, i sold of my collection over the last 3 months, perhaps 4,000 games in total. This included a near complete pal ps1 set, n64 set, dreamcast, neo geo, and many minty snes. Now all im left with is a few games I could never sell, and a lot of cash.
Collecting is Great, but I can't help but feel walls and walls is going to far! Now, just collecting for the DS, which is lovely; ps2, which houses some awesome games; and Jamma Boards. I even sold of some of my more prized SOny PS1 items a few days ago, but whaty can ya do!
However im left in a lovely network of collectors who trade and sell among ourselves from our regions with eachother and, inturn I can source very rare games pretty cheaply from Japan and US. Thinking of starting a store with the money I've made selling my collection!

i have sold/traded stuff in my early days of collecting of which i later thought.. DAMN! but those things weren't really that bad, it's just that they were in super mint condition and pretty hard to find / uncommon (Eric Cantona Goal 2, Bartman meets Radioactive Man, Turtles 3.. all complete on the NES)
I would happily sell all things in my collection if it meant spending a happy life with a caring Asian girl.
I've got both. All I need now is to find a proper job so that we can live together and I can have a games room to piss her off to no end.

You've got an Asian girlfriend? I'm happy for you, man! What's her name, if I can ask? And is she Chinese, Japanese, Korean...? Just tell me if I'm being too interested, by the way.

ouch, that would be hard to let go of, the whole complete pal ps1 set, n64 and dc too?
with the amount of games you did have you could have started a business, that is what my friends say to me too XD
also a question for people who say they would sell their collection, you say you can buy them back but what if they are out of print or are extremely rare, i doubt you will be able to buy ALL of those games back, some of the games you have owned may have gone up twice the price so you would loose money.

Ahh, you're right in a sense, but I'm a gamer - not a collector, games just amass over time. I've still got a dozen games you'll never find. Again, i'll always trade a rare game to someone who wants it more than me. I won't trade my staregy guides, Tekken 2 poster (pic in this forum somewhere) or a couple of Press Kits (Resi 2, FF8).
HAving 1000 games sitting there doing nothing is kinda boring, not to mention how much I play modern games these days. Just gotten older, fair play to those who wish to collect, but like i've said before, i'd rather treat the family, than my shelf.
P.s.... i am starting an online store, but expect big prices, for the very rare.

ah yeah, arthritis is a bad combo with gaming
although i spend more time on my collection then actually playing the games

Seeing as how I'm a fairly new collector and as you can see by my signature my collection's pretty limited, I would say yes. I would just start over!
i am a single 30+ dude and also very often depressed, when i lay in bed and all is dark and i am the loneliest person in the world i can think of my collection which i love and cherish and that makes me feel better, then all memories about good games and memories how i got them.

personally i've never had to sell anything yet, and fingers crossed that it wont happen

Nope, not unless I was offered enough to buy double the amount.

Whats the obsession with asians ladies? Very prepubic.
Knowing me if I said yes and got all the money I'd just spend it on more retro games/consoles, so definitely not.

Yes, because i'd be able to buy a house if I received Market value for everything.
Even if someone offered me Market Value for a few of my items i'd accept as I enjoy the chase of trying to get it again.
