The FRA regioncode

As most of you know, the FRA regioncode is on games from France which is PAL-B area.

But I've got 4 games in my collection with the FRA code on the frontlabel and EAI on the backlabel. EAI is 'England and Italy' and is the PAL-A area.

Someone sugested that the front of the carts was switced sometimes, but since I've got 4 games bought around the world... I don't know?

This is the games I've got:

- Burai Figter NES-UF-FRA

- Kid Icarus NES-KI-FRA

- Super Mario Bros. 2 NES-MW-FRA

- Tennis NES-TE-FRA

Burai Fighter is CIB, but the box and the manual is UKV-2. This game I've bought from England.

Tennis did I get from a Norwegian auctionsite and the last two I don't remember where I got 'em.

And today a fellow collector from Norway said he got a CIB Zelda with NES-ZL-FRA on the frontlabel and EAI on the back. The box is NES-P-ZL and the manual and map is UKV-2.

So, anyone know something about this?

  • Funny enough, I've actually made the same observations, but with different titles.

A while back, I purchased around 60 games from a French seller, all of which had FRA, FAH, and FAH-1 on the back labels and FRA on the front labels. Months later, I purchased a bunch of games from a UK seller, two of which had FRA on the front and EAI on the back (NES-GF-FRA, Golf and NES-LH-FRA, Stealth ATF). I have no reason to believe that either ones were swapped because the manuals also have the FRA-1 code?!

So, this leads me to think that some FRA code games were released in the UK.

  • Maybe there are some connections with Bandai. Check if the games that got FRA/EAI all got Bandai logo on them. Might not be on the cart, but it should be on the box atleast.
