Anybody here into Strategy Guide Collectors Editions ??
I always found this quite an interesting sub-branch of game collecting. I particularly like the hardbacks - some of which have some nice artwork not found in the regular guides.
I have about a dozen Collectors/Prestige editions . . .although a couple are just "Art of . . ."
Anybody else here into these because it might be an idea for a database addition
Comments
I don't particularly collect them but I have some hardback and softback guides and some artwork books that came with pre-orders.
Sounds interesting, Alex. What sort of stuff are you talking about because pre-order gear is a bit of a blind spot with me . . .
Well I have two Dynasty Warriors art books that both were with a preorder of some of the games. Dynasty Warriors 5 and 6 I think they came with.
Ah right . . .wouldn't mind seeing a pic of them, if you're able :ugeek:
I'll get a pic of em up tonight as gotta go vets now
the only CE guides i have are for the oblivion and fallout series, i have a CE of fallout new vegas plus other stuff.
I have about 15 or so strategy guides. I'd say about half are CE versions which I bought all off Amazon UK. Otherwise I only tend to buy guides for RPGs or fighters. And maybe FPSs if I can find them cheap.
Picked up the X-Box Halo Combat Evolved in a charity shop for £2 yesterday. Quite a tricky one to find these days.
Knocks my collection up to 60 now + 10 CEs + 2 Artbooks.
We'll have to get a few pics up . . .anybody fancy posting some  :?:
I'll take a video of my guides later. or pics,. dunno.

i was going to ask you about doing that but i am not sure if you would have agreed or not, i am glad you are considering it.
also adding game soundtracks would be another idea...

Great idea Techni, I think Strategy Guides are as collectable as anything else and are certainly an integral part of gaming.

We have a whole bunch of these - at once stage we were collecting them all, but started to skip a few when they started coming out for games we had no interest in.
These are the ones I have that are for games on PlayStation consoles:

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Bayonetta
BioShock 2
Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Dead Rising 2
Dead Space 2
Dragon Age
Duke Nukem Forever
Fallout 3: Pre War Edition
Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition
Fallout: New Vegas
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy XIII
God of War III
Killzone 2
Mass Effect 2 (although released alongside the Xbox 360 version so no DLC coverage)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Mirror's Edge
Mortal Kombat
Portal 2
Prince of Persia
Resident Evil 5
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2
These are the ones I've missed/skipped, or are on their way
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Dragon Age II
Homefront
Killzone 3
Medal of Honor
Nice little selection there Matt . . . especially the Bayonetta. Did you buy it locally or get it online :?:

Looking at the stuff you have coming reminds me of something strange i saw last week. I was in my local branch of Gamestation when i noticed the Dragon Age II Collectors hardcover for 10 quid. "Right, I'm having that" methinks, and when i picked it up there was a softcover version of the guide underneath . . .priced at £13.
If that makes sense to anyone please let me know . . .
Online through Amazon UK.
Getting books locally is a pretty expensive endeavour - the Australian government continues to support legislation that protects local book publishers and keeps local book prices ridiculously high. Sometimes you can bring the price down to a reasonable level through stacking discounts, and other times they just ship too many and they end up going on clearance.
I usually get my stuff from Amazon US, shipping multiple books at once to keep the cost reasonable, but you have to be careful with how long you wait on some books due to the smallish print runs.
I think maybe we're a bit more fortunate in the UK because I've seen a fair few hardback guides in the local games stores at half-price or less - often cheaper than even Amazon.
Recent purchases include the Bioshock 2 CE for £8, the Killzone 3 hardcover for £10 and, amazingly, the Call of Duty MW2 Prestige edition for £10. That goes for £30 + most places.
Of the 12 Special Editions i have, i think i only got one online . . .that being Soul Calibur IV on ebay.
I was taking some snaps so I thought I might as well do a few of these.

Yeah, thanks for that - they both look top, especially the Uncharted 3 8-)
I'm surprised more people are not into these because you can pick a lot of nice ones up quite reasonably cheap.
I'd really like the Arkham City hardcover but it seems to have disappeared from the shops in favour of a personal appearance on Amazon at £30 +
Dark Souls - The Official Guide by Future Press seems quite nice edition:
