Thought i'd better start a new topc for this in case this gets lost in the old thread. Those that pre-ordered will probably already know this but for anybody else that is just interested . . .got this e-mail today.

Not sure whether to be happy or not :?

  • so it's really not worth it because you don't get metal gear solid ps1 dlc anymore the t-shirt is ok, but it's a shame they changed the contents, if zavi were not sure about the contents they should have not took pre-orders, but at least you get a free metal gear solid 4 out of it then.

  • I love the artwork on the new set and the inclusion of the artbook is a welcome addition.

I don't think Zavvi are to blame this time, HUYI. My reading of the situation is that Konami decided to change the goalposts because they realised that they could make more money by scrapping the 4000 edition Limited steelbook.

Essentially they are now giving us the Australian/US edition with a coupla extras. And, of course, it's now available for the 360.

Just another example of the collector being screwed by the corporations although, having said that, I think the main sufferers will be the ebay profiteers.

The only saving grace for me and the reasons I'm not cancelling . . .well, I'm a steelbook freak as well even though this looks more like a stickerbook from the Zavvi pic.
  • That's a good thing in my book if the ebay sellers loose out fair play for the rest of us.

  • Zavvi are putting it back up for pre-order in a day or two which confirms my suspicion from way back that Konami were pondering a more lucrative strategy for marketing this.

The message at Zavvi says this edition is limited to 8000 worldwide for PS3 and 5000 for XBox. Simple maths dictates that they are gonna make a bundle more this way but, for the life of me, I can't imagine why they announced a stupidly small-run Limited Edition steelbook in the first place.

All they've managed to acheive is piss a lot of people off although, knowing corporate mentality, Konami were probably aware that a lot of ebay sellers were going to make more than THEY were . . .which might just have been a factor in their decision to delay and re-market.

My own view is that the artbook is a welcome addition although a limited numbered steelbook would have been more desirable.

  • People who preordered the first one should automatically get the second one

  • To be sure, but it would be interesting to know how many people cancelled. Given the popularity of the franchise, though, i don't think anybody will be having too many sleepless nights about that

  • [color=#FF40001wg534z]Original orders are going to be honoured, the extra copies will be up for sale on Wednesday morning.

Even though I've got a copy of the US LE (ps3) on the way I'm going to try and bag the 360 LE - 4000 copies really is a small run. [/color1wg534z]

  • I let my original order stand because i want a free copy of . . . **gasp** . . .MGS 4 Platinum Edition

Actually i never bought the game so it might come in handy

  • Preorders went live at about 10:00 gmt, bagged a copy of the 360 version no bother

  • You're lucky, Geoff. My original pre-order hasn't even been updated and i actually got a message from Zavvi yesterday apologising about the delay in sending it . . .the limited steelbook, that is

    Bunch of arseholes . . . :x

Yep that's really shoddy, I hope you get it sorted soon. Would love the speak to someone that works for Zavvi and to find out what the story was behind the shifting nature of this release - I'm sure it'd be really interesting!
  • I have to say I'm sorry for you guys, but this is actually good news for me as a Metal Gear collector. I just missed out on the first release (by an hour even...) and to make sure I get one I just ordered both the 360 and PS3-version. There was no way I was going to pay the

  • It would be nice if Konami issued some sort of an apology - for dicking everybody around

  • As should Zavvi for not being able to keep their promise. It doesn't really matter whose fault it is, a lot of people (mostly buyers on ebay) got screwed because of Zavvi not being able to get their shit together. Whether or not that is Konami's fault doesn't even matter that much.
'Giving' a 'free' platinum MGS4 is a really shitty gesture, at least make some sort of exclusive sleeve.

What I don't get is why they gave the Xbox-version a run of 5000 by the way. There are way fewer Xbox-collectors than for the PS3, but 8000 vs 5000 just sounds weird. 4000 would have made sense, as would 8000. It might be a stupid thing to complain about, but it's just weird to me.

  • i just ordered ^^

  • Sent Zavvi an email . . .let's see what happens :?

  • Zavvi got pre-order up again? more copies? some canceled pre-orders?

Yeah, it's all been a bit of a mystery with Konami ditching the limited steelbook (which the REAL collectors would rather have had) in favour of the new edition with generic steelbook and artbook plus extras. I think the ebay speculators might have influenced their decision somewhat

I don't know if Zavvi have been as confused as the rest of us but their customer service handling has been a bit vague, to say the least.

To be honest, I'm past caring now so I'll just wait and see what happens in early February. Final Fantasy XIII-2 CEs and Soul Calibur V CE all come out on the same day . . .so Konami's thunder has been stolen to a certain extent.
  • how is your pre-order going with zavi kennyrh? i would watch out, zavi can be a bit rouge when it comes to dispatching stuff, so be careful, i think thats why i didn't take the chance with the metal gear solid HD collection LE it's too expensive to loose if zavi mess up.
