  • I have a brothers in arms road to hill 30 ps2 promo, disc only, on ebay atm.

  • i've just started collecting them myself. i think i have like 2 or something like that.

  • I've got an Uncharted 2 promo

  • I got White Knight Chronicles (PS3) and some PSP promos - if you are interested, then PM to me

  • I only have one PS3 Promo - Tekken Hybrid & that was because it was cheaper than the game by £10 at release and I only wanted it for Tekken Tag HD. I just keep it in my Tekken 6 case - I got it for £15

  • Just bought something I missed out on a couple of years ago and kicked myself for it... a Shadow of the Colossus promo. Possibly the best game ever made. Also picked up promos for Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs SNK: SVC Chaos. All three with the original inlay covers. Beautiful.

Now, if I can just find one for ICO...

  • I do have a few promo games. Play Station 2 mainly. If you want I can check for you.

  • I don't really collect promos, but as a reviewer of games, I do have some. But I usually find myself trading them for games I don't own.

  • Yeah I'd appreciate it if you could check Malteser and Reyman if you get any you want to trade let me know.

  • Out of interest what site do you review for?

Those are all I have, sorry

    Apline Racer 3 (PS2)
    Klonoa 2 (PS2)
    Formula One 99 (PS1)

Condition wise, they do have a few scratches, but if my memory serves me well, they all work.

  • Prices very enormously, it depends entirely on the promo game in question.

I've seen promos fail to sell at 99p (most days!) but the most I've seen one sell for is £175 (though it wouldn't sell for that now I think).

  • What game was that? Tombi is 'only' £70 BIN.

  • The first Metal Gear Solid - PS1 promo to appear went for a Best Offer of £175. (This was when people were still getting to grips with what PS1 promos were and how to differentiate them from PS1 demos ~ should they have inlays, etc.)

I think the last Metal Gear Solid - PS1 promo went for about £50. Prices are generally dropping ~ I've seen a Silent Hill 2 promo sell for £160 a couple of years ago, but the last one sold for just over £30.

Promos sell because of the collectors of a particular franchise, not because they're inherently promos. It's like the music industry, who have been producing promo records / CDs for far longer than the game industry has existed. Go into any second hand music store in London and there are handfulls of promos going for next to nothing, it's only the famous singers/bands whose promo items have some value (and usually less than you'd think).

  • Thats why I bought my Uncharted 2 promo seeing as it's a huge franchise. Out of interest do you know what it would be worth? I'm really thinking about collecting promos.

How much would you want for each of them?
  • I don't think you can generally set a price on promos, simply because they're going to go for what any given collector would want for them. When it comes to big name games, it's understandable that those will generally go for more, but if an obscure promo pops up, all bets are off. It may be "worth" a lot, but it all comes down to how much any given person wants it.

Same thing with any obscure collector's item though. Sky's the limit (or the floor).

  • I more meant whether he thought it was worth more or less rhan the standard copy. Sorry should've made it clearer.

Not got a price Not even sure if they are rare, or how much they normally go for. Name a price yourself.

In truth, I would expect the prices for Uncharted 2 (both retail and promo versions) to drop and they predictably have done like all PS3 games after the weeks of their initial release. You can buy the retail version for betwen £5 - £10 and I would expect the promo (depending how you price/sell it) to go for about £10 at the moment, maybe a little more. So yes, at this point in time I would expect it to me worth a [i:36k9pqzq]little[/i:36k9pqzq] bit more than the retail version if listed correctly.

Big franchises don't always mean that their promo versions are worth more, it's more the [i:36k9pqzq]collectible[/i:36k9pqzq] franchises. (ie: those franchises whose fans have created their own websites to show off their collections ~ and a lot of these franchises are over 10 /20 years old.) If the Uncharted series remains popular in ten years time, then an original Uncharted promo may be worth a fair bit more than the retail version.

In short, if you wish to collect promo games then wait a few months after the games release and most can be picked up very cheaply (just like the retail version). If you want to collect promo games as an investment, then promo games are not likely to be worth anything because they are inherently a promo version. It will most likely only be worth something to collectors of the particular franchise in question.

A huge warning though. A case in point may be Sonic the Hedgehog. A very collectible franchise with a long history (over 20 years old) whereby certain items can be worth a frankly eye-watering amount of money...

So you would be forgiven for thinking the promo version of the original Genesis game would be worth a lot of money, and yet you would be completely wrong as you can easily pick one up for under £8
  • Wait what? That's a promo version of Sonic? o.O I've had that copy since I was a kid; bought it at Woolworth's.

  • Does yours have not for resale on? No I'm not looking at selling these just trying avoid overpaying

  • Yup, exactly like that one he linked to. I always thought the huge "NOT FOR RESALE" was odd.
