Are CIB NEs Games Selling for Crap?

I kinda thought there was like big price increases lately for cib nes games, but ive been searching around on ebay, and unless its like a black box game, or an odd game. the rest of CIB NES Games are selling for crap? For example, i see a CIB LOLO for starting bid of $1.00, and like $3.50 shipping an no bids lol? And like a mint CIB mega man just went for like $30.00 (i remeber it going for $50.00), umm some other odd no sellers ive seen that are still on ebay are factory sealed spiderman $25.00?? and then there is also a mint CIB lolo3 that has sat on there for days at a BIN of like $36.00? And the weird thing is i saw a CIB Zelda at $40.00? lol Man Ebay is weird sometimes, im not really complaining because i still need to buy up some more of these "used to sell for big money" CIB games. But its gonna suck for buying lots and reselling. i dunno know anyone else see anything weird?

  • End of May, heading into June and summer is not a good time to sell. Prices are generally depressed this time of year until early September. As far as buying is concerned... image

about to desecrate another survivor are you? image Well, when doing the dirty deed you might as well know in advance to expect a 'vertical overlap' rather than horizontal seal, in case you're questioning the game's authenticity.

So, uh... do you go for virgins generally, or just when it comes to video games? Sick fucking bastard! image
  • This might need a topic of its own but I can almost bet when the minium wage increase hits coupled with the rising gas things are going to get ugly. I see a lot of people thinking ong and hard about collecting games. When the wage increase hits I doubt you will see a 1.00 menu anywhere. The increase sounds good but watch the prices of everything sky rocket..and we havent even started to see the effects of the gas..trucks haul almost everything so I have a feeling after Christmas of this year there isnt going to be the market for video games there is now.
  • I've noticed that the prices for NES games (all of them, not just CIBs) have been very low lately, and I suppose it is due to the time of season. Now is definitely a good time to buy. I have a bunch of extra games that I want to list on eBay but I know they have been selling poorly so I am holding them for now. The value should go up again in the fall and all the way up into February 2008.
  • I think it really depends, because my store sales are still very strong. Auctions right now are suicide IMO, so it's a very good time to buy if you watch, then snipe, a lot of them. Buying in bulk, however, is difficult because there are so many people going for the same boxed/CIB lots. That's why I've been buying small, cheap, or mis-listed lots that I can mark up a bit -- it's not profitable to go for the large ones right now because many of them are selling for more than the prices you'd get by piecing them out.

  • I would agree 100% with everything DAIN said and getting more and more true with every passing day. My store does very well, I had the items up to around 225 last week and it's down to 119 or somewhere around there now. Stuff is selling it just has to be priced right with fair shipping. I know alot of you think I buy every boxed/boxes lot on eBay but that couldn't be true. Especially in the last 1-2 months I get outbid on like 9/10 boxes lots. And it's not becuase I have lowered my spending limits or anything. I am curious to see what this does, either A) more people are starting collections and buying lots to get big chunks (this is probably at least part of it) B) more stores are opening selling video games on eBay everyday (also part of it) and C) which I'm not positive on, more people are competing for same lots which is driving box lots prices up up up and then people have to sell them for more which slows individual sales. My 2 cents, or since I spent the last 4 days in Canada my 1.8 cents worth.

  • I have a couple theories on this

    1) Random common CIB's have never done great in single auctions. With shipping prices relativily high for a single game, cheaper CIB's don't sell because after shipping they're not worth buying.

2)More and more collectors seam to be going the "buy the big lot and sell the spares off" route. leading to an over aboundance or common CIB's around because peices of the big lots are constantly being relisted.

3)We're reaching a saturation point. for the past 5-6 years especially, NES collectiong has been getting more and more expensive, lending to the idea that there were more and more NES collectors. Perhaps we're reaching a point where the supply of the cheaper stuff has actually equalized with the number of new collectors, leading to stagnation or even deflation with more common CIB's.

Look at atari 2600 collecting, very few auctions are NR auctions. many of the common, bad, or cheaper games won't sell for anyhting worth listing. rather you see a lot of set price auctions. I would expect to see the same for NES as the collector base becomes more stable. If 2600 is any type of indicator, it shows that the Mid-tier and extremly rare games should skyrocket boxed, while loose rares and mid-tier on down should devalue to cheaper range.
  • It's interesting because I can sell common CIBs very very easily in my store, even at $5 each + s/h. I sold 18 last night to one guy, as an example, and that happens semi-frequently. I can't keep enough commons to stock my store, even when I raise prices, and I can't buy enough because of the competition (it's fiscally not worth it on many lots). And you can't raise your prices too much because DiscountGames is "dumping" commons on the market at under $3 each. I think most sellers are just hoping he eventually runs out. For now, I just plan on chugging along, picking up what I can and selling what I can. If nothing else, it's a lot of fun.

  • Dain, it's scary to me how much alike we are. Of course I guess alot of people here are somewhat alike for our decision to collect/love NES. Anyways, again couldn't agree more. I have been selling commons to people at like $4.99-$5.99 and can't seem to keep enough listed. I think after PayPal and ebay fees I am probably only breaking even on anything under $6.99 so the motivation definetly isn't money to keep listing that type of stuff. I've had a couple people buy orders of 15-20 games at a pop and all of them under $9.99 each for CIB games. But it is fun and more than that buying the lots is really fun to search for variants and to upgrade stuff. Just like last week when we "figured out" the Tengen seal variant thing after all the years they've been out there. :-)
  • That Tengen thing seemed so obvious too! Jeesh... ah well, that's how we get it done I suppose.

BTW, we're getting VERY close with the collection tool, so I hope you're keeping good notes on all the stuff you've found. It's going to take a handful of very diehard variations collectors to fill in this stuff. Hope you're up for it! (evil laugh)

  • I've been busting your chops for how long now to quit work and get it done....

    :-)~
  • Hey, pay my bills and I might take you up on that!
  • You know, I might have taken you up on that before you had to go and get the little lady prego. I hear babies are expensive....
  • Tengen seal variant?
  • See the "Help Wanted" thread!!

This seems to be the time for N64 stuff in general...maybe not the right time of year, but as with Atari 2600 and NES, and a year or two ago it started with the SNES as well, a disparity trend has come about.  I've seen more common N64 games going for less and less, while the rarer ones seem to be holding their ground, or in some cases (Clayfighter Sculptor's Cut, especially CIB, as well as International Superstar Soccer 2000) increasing in value.  wrldstrman, in my honest opinion, you couldn't have picked a better time to start an N64 collection.  Sit back for the next 5 years and watch ISS 2000 climb to $50-$60 loose and possibly as much as $150 complete (and watch me kick myself for selling my CIB copy for $62 some time ago!).

Back on topic, I believe the lower common NES game prices are nothing more than a seasonal lull, strengthened by rising inflation and the slowly degenerating economy (though I think I've seen some of the rarer titles actually pull a slight increase in price lately...?).
  • yea stuff has really been strange. I guess it all realy depends whos looking for what really. after everyone get a CIB copy of contra, i guess theres only so many people left that will still bid on one lol. (i still need a cib lol) But i chased all the rares first and fortunately got most of them CIB outta the way. now im chasing common boxes and manuals lol. But either way, its all still fun no matter the value on this stuff. Ever since i opened up that new nes i got, i kinda had a rebirth for playing again, oppose to sitting online and huinting all the time lol. Makes it all feel more worth while when ya sit down and beat a game the whole way through again.
  • thing that gives me a kick on ebay is you will see 10 of the same common games for a certian price and then one sandwitched in the middle with a bid higer than the bin prices
