Discountgames gone?

Only shows him having like 700 auctions with is nothing for him....but if you click on any of them it shows them as being yanked.  Has ebay finally come to it's senses?

  • Theres only one game now,

Sega Genesis Game ROAD RASH - COMPLETE!
  • depends on when you look at it...it has been going up and down all day. 0 up to like 700 is the most I have seen. I think ebay is yanking them as fast as he program is listing them...something is up I think.

  • Wow, there aren't any when I look.  I wonder why?  Does eBay have a minimum satisfaction requirement of 95% over the last 1 month or 3 months now?  I notice that DiscountGames only has a 92.5% rating over the last month...
  • I get 725 auctions listed...
  • My past few transactions with him have been okay, his shipping methods have been lacking like most people point out, but I got my stuff and got lucky that things weren't bashed to hell.

It's personally sad for me to see someone run their business into the ground in the face of motivated competition and angry customers. Maybe not sad for the business owner, but nobody starts up with this kind of end in mind.
  • I just got 0 auctions listed.

EDIT-I clicked it 3 seconds later and it shows 725!! WTF?

  • I occasionally would use Discount games to but loose carts or single manuals. As long as I didn't buy anything boxed, I never had a problem. Either way, it's too bad that someone who had the power to have a profitable business squandered it by being an idiot.
  • Don't you think he will just start a new account?
  • I'm not positive but he may just have his vacation settings on. I had to do it one time for a couple weeks and 34 or so items still showed up under my name. I think it's just a glitch with the vacation status that you see a few items sometimes. He doesn't have the no longer registered anywhere so that's my guess. I'd suggest someone ask but they don't answer emails
  • This is probably the best news ever for the other big re-sellers (Pedro&Sosafan)
  • Sure can't hurt. My sales have been much much better the last week. Could be coincidence or directly a big factor.

I hope I'm wrong about the vacation. He had over a dozen employees at least as of a year ago so it really wouldn't make sense unless it's an employee sponsored trip to celebrate the declining sales
  • Well at least now you guys know what NOT to do if you want to continue selling on fee-bay.Just don't send CIB games in used ceral boxes with no padding,And you should be all good. All I have to say is Nintendoage auctions are going to whoop E-bay's ASS!!
  • I was thinking, if I were going to close up shop, I'd cut staff and let my listings run for a few months to get things sold off as much as possible. I know for a while they were approaching 30,000 listings and last time I remember, it had been down to around 20,000. They recently had just posted a bunch of completes though so the signs seem to be conflicting as why would you do a bunch of work only to finish up and close them a few day later? Also, the thousands of items aren't showing up in the completed search. They would if he had done a manual "end of auction" to everything
  • The new changes went into effect 45 days ago, including stricter feedback criteria. If at the time you were not in compliance, you were given a certain amount of time to get your numbers up. If that amount of time was 45 days, times up. The listings were definitely pulled by ebay and not voluntarily.
  • Wow, he's gone forever?
  • I thought the stricter policy was to make the powerseller status so that it actually means something. I assumed that powerseller status would just be lost and that would basically be the extent. Maybe you're right, they're rejecting 150K+ per year in fees from them if that's the case, very interesting
  • Its not like he cant just get a new name and start up again?
  • Yes, he could try but if he has been banned from selling, he is well known, not exactly your fly under the radar video game seller. It'd also be pure hell to get those 20,000 listings back up. Even if he's got them saved in whatever program he uses, to sift through what's sold and what hasn't would truly suck and that's just to get back where they were at. He's also got the problem of actually caring about the customer to correct as well
  • Wow, I go out of town for the weekend and finally get a quick chance to check online so obviously the first place I go is NA... and I hear that Discountgames may have gone under... that's awesome!!! I need to go out of town more often.
  • He must have sold his business for $1,000,000 like he was asking for before.
  • I called customer their customer service to ask them what's up but was told that she couldn't talk about it and that she doesn't know when they'll start listing again but that they are still in business.
  • huh this is weird... they just recently bought another lot of junk from me too.. lol

would be great for every other nes seller and buyer if they did go under.

Interesting, if it were just a glitch, i would think they would tell you that over the phone,

    Something else is going on.

I agree with Dan, DC may not be great but I'd hate to see a business squandered.

  • I bet they sold the business and are in a transition of some sort with the new owners...

  • Maybe the glitch was the IRS smacking them down for unreported income.

If that were the case wouldn't they have been willing to say that over the phone?  "Not allowed to talk about it" sounds like they're in trouble with ebay and are trying how to figure out how to get back in good terms.
  • not if some major company IE Gamestop or something bought it, pile of legal crap and stuff. Would be a great way for the company to take stock in and have a means of selling it. There is big money to be made in vintage games, they have to know that. We will find out soon enough though I guess.

  • I would be real suprised if one of the big companies bought them out. They used to sell old games but quit selling them a few years ago. If they wanted back in, I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper for them to do it on their own (like why would they want a big warehouse in Iowa, etc). Plus, their branding is much stronger than Discount Games and they have to have done enough due dillegance to be aware of how disliked DG is. I bet they either owe eBay a lot of money or they were just purchased by someone other than one of the big game stores. My last eBay invoice was received on 7/4 so maybe their policy is once you are 30 days past due your account is locked?
