Reyman's Peculiar Corner

Hello everyone!

PlayStationCollecting has been around for a while now, and I'm happy I became a member. There are lots of like-minded peope here. People that like to collect and actually see the value in having a wide collection of games for older systems, the systems themselves and any and all accessories assoiciated with them.

Now, I've been collecting for a long time now, and even though I may not have the most exclusive items that are out there, there are definitely some things in my personal collection that are 'peculiar.' Those items are the center of this topic of mine. Of course, I will also use it to post pictures of my latest aquisitions, even if they're not peculiar or weird at all.

To start this topic off, let me show you some of the items in my collection I think are worth mentioning here.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Gran Turismo hint books:

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is a pretty hard game, and a little help is always useful. This small black & white book contains a full walkthrough of the game, as well as an extra guide for its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It's a great help, and I am glad I received it for free from someone who didn't see the use of it. Sadly, I don't know which magazine it came with. Does anyone here know this?

The Gran Turismo guide offers players the best set-ups for races and the best strategies to obtains credits or money for the more expensive cars, I believe. After all, it is a play guide. While I do enjoy the Gran Turismo games, and own practically all major installments within the series, I must honestly say I have never bothered to actually look through this little Play Guide. Sorry to GT-fans out there!

Eldar Saga for Nintendo Wii:

The Nintendo Wii has been released in 2006 and has since then, offered millions of players hundreds of hours of entertainment. As a big fan of Nintendo, I must say I do enjoy the Wii and the exclusive games that it offers. Eldar Saga is one of those exclusive games. And also, one of those games I had never seen before when I came across it at my local video game store. They charged me €7,50 for the game, and I thought it was a bargain, since I had never seen it before, and it is an RPG. After a little research, I found out it is actually the third game in the "Valhalla Knights"-series of games, which were released to PlayStation Portable. In Japan and North America, the game is known as "Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga." Why they changed the name of the game for the European release, is unbeknownst to me. This game is the first in the series that is released on Wii, and as far as I know, the last one in the series, as well.

Hoshigami for Nintendo DS:

Hoshigami (also known as "Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth") is a tacitcal RPG which was originally released for the PlayStation in 2001. The game released in Japan and North America, but here in Europe, a release never took place. Maybe that was due to the fact that the game received mostly negative reviews, because of the steep learning curve, the emphasis and neccessity of level-grinding, the nigh-impossible battles as well as the fact that fallen teammates are lost forever if they are not revived before a battle's end.

In 2007, however, the game received a remake on Nintendo's dual-screen handheld, the Nintendo DS. This version was named "Hoshigami Remix" and featured a number of enhancements to make the game more accessible to new players. 505 GameStreet localized this game in Europe as simply "Hoshigami." Since I had never seen the game before but yet do love RPG's, I decided to buy the game for €4,95 when I saw it in a bargain bin somwhere. Since then, I have never seen a second copy of the game around these parts, so my guess it that it didn't sell very well. That could, however, also be a sign of the rarity of the game...

Tingle's Balloon Fight DS for Nintendo DS:

Tingle is annoying to some people, yet awesome to others. Whatever your personal opinion may be, it cannot be denied that he is special. With a few games released that had his name on it, he's interestingly enough for Nintendo to release Tingle's Balloon Fight DS in 2007. The game was only available through Club Nintendo-members in Japan, and the game has never been made available for Club Nintendo-members in other countries. I received this game for free from someone I know since he had no use for it anymore. Since it's a Japan-exclusive, I would assume other Nintendo-collectors like myself would love to have it. I don't exactly know how much it would be worth though. All in all, a peculiar product that I think is worth mentioning here.

Promotional games for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3:

There are many collector´s on these forums here and most of them collect for PlayStation. That´s to be expected on a PlayStationCollecting-forum. Lucky for me, I also have quite a number of PlayStation-games. Also, I have quite a number of promotional copies of games. And the ones that I have with covers, (for PS2 and PS3, at least) can be found on this photo. My most prized possession in this lot is the PS2-title "Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja 5. I never see the game anywhere, let alone a promotional copy of it.

Now that's we've seen the first of my peculiar items, let's take the rest of this opening post to talk about some of my most recent aquisitions.

For Nintendo 64, the following games have been added to my collection:

Top Gear Rally, Top Gear OverDrive, Body Harvest, Shadow Man and Donkey Kong 64. All games include manuals and boxes and these are, as of now, my only boxed Nintendo 64-titles. Sadly, there was no Expansion Pack with DK64, but that´s to be expected. Lucky for me, I already own one.

Etrian Oddysey III: The Drowned City (+ art book) and Okami-Den for Nintendo DS:

The Nintendo DS, as well as the PlayStation Portable are, in my opinion, the best platforms for JRPG's. Since the systems are small and made to take with you, an RPG is the perfect genre for such systems. For that reason, I am very glad that those systems received some of the best JRPG's. I love collecting games for the Nintendo DS, and recently I was fortunate enough to add both Etrian Oddysey III: The Drowned City and Okami-Den to my collection. As you can see, EOIII is still sealed and comes with an amazing art-book showing the beautiful art that was used to create the game. And Okami-Den is a game that's becoming a rarity more and more every day. While I love the PS2 original, I don't know much about this DS-sequel. But judging by the imaging on the back of the box, I believe it will be a similar experience as the first game, but this time, in the palm of your hands.

Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland for PlayStation 3:

image

The Atelier series of games has been going strong for several years now. On PlayStation 2 there were five games released that are part of the series, and the PlayStation 3 is getting a similar treatment. With the release of Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland, the Arland-trilogy of Atelier-games comes to an end, and collectors like myself can complete this trilogy by buying the game. Even though the North American market received a Collector's Edition of this game, as they did for the previously released Atelier Rorona- and Atelier Totori-games, Europe received only the regular game. I'm a very big fan of the series and while it may look girly to some, you must play it to understand it charme. Now there's waiting until Atelier Ayesha is released in Europe...

And with that, we came to the end of the first part of my Peculiar Corner-topic. Feel free to reply, ask me questions and give your personal opinion on some or all of my items. Thanks for reading and I hope you'll find I didn't waste your time. See you later!
