Motor City Patrol

Seeing that this was the only actual released game by Matchbox, I'm sure it wasn't printed in a large quantity. How hard is to to really find this cart? What about the box and manual?

I've been 'collecting' NES games for the better part of a decade now, and I've only seen maybe 3 copies in the wild-and this is from checking stores in cities like NYC, St. Louis, Chicago, Cleveland, and my hometown of Cincinnati. I kinda wish I'd grabbed the extra copies, looking back on it.

I clearly remember playing through it as a kid, and it was one of the first games I went after when I seriously started collecting. The Funco newspaper always listed the game at an inexpensive price, but never had any...much like Stadium Events. I even called other stores in the country, hoping to secure one. We finally got a complete one in at the Funco I worked at in a random shipment. It was pure luck that I got my copy.

I like to look at this title as a 'sleeper' when it comes to rarity.

  • It's definitely pretty hard to find. I think this was like the 10th last game that I got to complete my NES collection. It's one of those games that, whenever people post a list of games that they need to complete their collection (like "Help me complete my collection, only 100 games left".. Motor City Patrol is always on the list.
  • Yeah, games like that and Hillsfar and Ubi Indy, etc are always on people's last 50 list, yet they usually go for a pittance on eBay and everywhere else. That's actually starting to change a bit for Indy, but there are a lot of other tough-to-locate games for NES that really fly under the radar, while games like Bubble bobble part 2, which can be found for sale any day of the week, go for hundreds. Go figure...
  • I still need that damn map for Motor City Patrol. I've only seen it once on eBay. Tough to find game CIB for sure and with map even harder!!
