Can I peel off NES labels w/o damage??

Retrozone has blue, red, and clear NES cases available now. I may be the only one who thinks this is really cool, but I see a new hobby ahead of me.

Does anyone know if you can peel off a label from a cart without tearing up the label....so as to be able to place that label on a new cart. This would be great for all my multicarts and repros. Heat gun is all I can think of....and that idea seems like it could be a lot of problems.

How cool would a blue NES collection be ?!?

  • Those blue, red, and clear cases are sweet. I will be ordering a few for sure just to have. Not sure what I will do with them yet though...

  • A blue NES collection would be pretty sweet.

Honeslty I wouldn't risk peeling off a label, even with a heat gun. My best advice is to scan all the labels you want, and then print them out on glossy sticker paper, cut them out carefully, then apply them to a blue NES case.

  • When they were figuring out the guts of the Air Raid cart over at atariage.com the guy who cracked it had to get the label off first. The picture he had showed a piece of glass and a cold Corona beer. I guess it had something to do with the condensation? Anyways wouldn't work with most NES labels as the gloss is waterproof.
  • Ive messed around with heating one up with a blow drier and the label came off just fine... give it a shot with one of your cheap cheap carts but make sure the label is really really hot before attempting...
  • I'd be worried about getting the label too hot and having the gloss bubble or curl.

It'd be awesome if there was an online compendium of labels for this specific purpose.
  • Oh wow.  I just looked over on that site.  That's pretty slick.  If only I knew how to make games...  If they had opaque casings, then I might be more intrigued.  Not that the transparent ones are junk, there's a certain charm to opaque.
  • I would just go with repo labels since the cases are not oridginal
  • The more I look at that stuff, the more interested I'd be in wanting to try making a cart myself.  I have 2 other rom hacks that would be neat to have in cart form.
  • the clear cases would be cool to put a light inside
  • I don't know which would be worse....Peeling the labels or trying to make quality copies. I need the magic wand answer.
  • Peeling off would be worse because if you blow it, you don't get a second chance.  "Quality" copies would require a good printer and scans and even still, won't be good.
  • Hogie I love you. Your hair dryer idea is brilliant!!! I had one of those horrible Blockbuster sticker on the back of a Cliffhanger cart. I never even bothered to try and remove it cause we all know how impossible Blockbuster stickers are to get off without destroying labels. I heated that sucker up and it came off like nobody's business. You just have to be patient to get it started, but when it starts is off in a jiffy. Thanks a ton bro, great idea. I wish I would have thought of it sooner.

Gayness established. Sorry guys, we're officially one facial mask away from beauticians. image

  • hahaha. What makes that even funnier is the fact that all my cleaning supplies and tools are store in one of my old g/f cabodles. It works pefect to hold my screwdrivers and parts. I am gay and didn't even know it.

  • Dan, you missed clothes iron on there -- I use that with a canvas sheet to press out wrinkles in boxes (works like a charm without damaging the boxes whatsoever).

  • I've had good results with using super fine waxed dental floss and gliding it underneath the label after warming it with a hair dryer / hot air gun. Just be careful with using a hair dryer (and especially a hot air gun) because the cartridge plastic can warp easier than you'd think.
  • Glad I could help NGD!!!!! and Bratwurst, Ive never thought of using dental floss to help pull up the label!!! I always have trouble with that Part!!! thanks man, I will be giving that a shot later....
  • Can the Famicom Adapters fit in the Clear Carts
