Got a Famicom game today and a dilemma

I posted a similar topic at NES World, but I thought I'd share here.  I got the game in and it's wrapped and everything.  I was mainly led to believe that this was just a very very nice copy.  I had no idea it was going to be sealed.  The price seemed to low for that.

The thing is, the photo didn't show a seal and actually, he has another copy up with the same photo and claims it to be "brand new" just like the one I have, so I'm guessing he lists them regularly.

I don't own a Famicom nor have the means to play this, but I just wanted the game for collection purposes and always wanted to see what a Famicom game looked like.  Should I open it up to peek inside or will that get a blunder?

  • If it was cheap I would just open it unless you plan to collect for Fami ever. A call you have to make though, this fourm is usually split about 50/50 on opening stuff up that is new.

  • Well, it was $32.50 + $8 shipping.  And in reality, as long as the games were complete I would have paid that much anyway.  Heck, I bid around $35 for Rockman 2 and still lost and that wasn't even mint.

If I open it, I'd of course keep it in good storage.  I keep all my loose boxes in a big box and they'll be fine in there.  I'd probably leave this game in its box.

I don't intend to get a lot of Famicom games.  I mainly want Rockman 2, 3, Lolo 1, and Lolo 2 all CIB.  I'd love to get an actual Famicom unit as well.  I got the Disk System version of Eggerland recently too.
  • Well, if you do open it, I need the content list image
  • hehe you see what happened to me didnt ya lol.
  • I don't know.  I think I may just keep it sealed as I don't have any sealed games and in reality, I wanted to have at least one.  Although I kinda wanted something mildly popular like Ice Hockey or Abadox or something.  Not a Famicom one.

It'll sit in a drawer sealed for the time being.  image

  • I didn't think famicom games were shrinkwrapped. Maybe some of them were, but I was led to believe that brand new famicom games were NOT sealed in any way. I have a definite brand new copy of Running Stadium and it's not sealed at all.

You are correct.  Famicom games, when sold new, were not factory wrapped.  Crack the plastic open, if you want...if it's truly new, it won't affect the value image .
  • So in other words, the shrink wrap is more than likely something done by the guy who shipped it?

I'm not doubting you folks or anything, I just want to absolutely verify this before I take any action.
  • Yeah, I had a resealed Famicom game arrive recently. I was like "sweet" but then I remembered seeing pics of the contents in the auction, so I opened it to see that it wasn't a factory seal.
  • yes go ahead and open it ... in confirmation with what the other people are saying, I too know that famicom games did not have a factory seal (heck i have a new Famicom Rodland [don't get too excited here folks for the famicom version actually isn't that hard to come by]) - go ahead and open it
  • Actually, I just got a reply from that guy and he indeed confirmed that he put the seal on himself.  I'm not upset of course as I was expecting just a "very nice" copy of the game.  The shrinkwrap was just unexpected.

I'll open it up later tonight.
  • That happened to me not too long ago with a sealed Nigel Mansells. The seller contacted me after they shipped it and said they re-sealed it because the old seal was showing wear and to help protect it during shipping. I about cried image

  • Well foks, it's OPENED!  Boy, Japan sure favored their consumers.  The manual for Rockman 5 makes ours look like a fire starter.  You got full color photos, all kinds of artwork.  Heck, they have 3 pages dedicated to all the enemies you fight in the levels with NAMES!  The robot master artwork is the same as ours, though they have some more info written by them.

To wizard 666:  The contents are everything pictured in this:

Maybe I should fill out that one form and mail it to Capcom of Japan.  image
