When did Kid Icarus become a $90 game?

I traded my copy to someone, but I'm not going to buy a new one if they cost this much!  The person that got mine got a steal too!

Comments

  • Its simple, the NES market has lost its sanity . Rares are selling cheap, commons are selling high. At least from what I've experienced lately...
  • thats the rare cib variant manual, thats why it went so high! i wish i had one of those manuals!
  • lol, looks like its missing a page or 2
  • im not 100% sure buy id say hes being sarcastic lmao
  • hmmm $20 bux seems like i got a steal
  • Ive been searching for a really nice copy of Kid icarus for months... as far as i can tell

a 9/10 is hard to come by. Is it really that common?
  • I've been watching thses for a while waiting for a nice complete to pop up and it's been quite a while since I've seen a box of that quality. It's just more ofb the black box insanity that's going on right now.
  • I noted that a nice complete copy of this game can be difficult to find. At the time of me writing this, I count 91 completed auctions for KI (either sold or didn't sell) in the last 15 days, and only 3 with boxes.

I agree with this statement right here. This game is kinda tough to find CIB, and finding a good condition CIB is even harder. I had a CIB in my collection for the longest time with a bad condition box before I was finally able to upgrade to a better copy. Although, I still think $91 is a very high price for this game with a damaged manual.

  • ^^^ Manuals aren't nearly as tough as boxes on this one, though. I see cart/manual copies a lot, but a nice box is pretty scarce. It would be pretty easy to get a better manual with a little patience.
  • While I agree that KI box is definetly harder to find than people think, especially in good shape. I must disagree with the manual comments. I currently have over 4,000 manual DOUBLES sorted and indexed ready to start selling/trading when I get back from Denmark. Out of all of those, the hardest manuals for me to find in minty fresh shape are Zelda 1 & 2, Metroid (Silver), and Kid Icarus. I don't know why but these 4, maybe because of the metallic like finish????, seems like 1 in 10 I get in is in decent shape. Is this just me or are people finding the same thing out there?

Could also be popularity vs how common it really is.

Obviously, SMB series is far more popular and thus they would have had a lot more copies, thus it's easier to find minty ones.

Where was Zelda 1 at least, Metroid and Kid Icarus were the start of a new series which they weren't expecting to be popular, thus the majority of the copies were in use rather than sitting in warehouses.

Although, it is 3:17am and I'm talking random stuff out of my ass.

I'd completely agree Eric, Metroid is the easiest of those 4 for me to find nr mint+ but at one point, I had 2 nr mint kid icarus boxes and couldn't find 6+ condition manuals for the longest time to go with them and finding copies of the manual wasn't the issue.  Mike Tyson is another oddity manual that is often torn up when I get it

  • I think it's simply because of popularity. People actually read the manuals over and over for these first-party games due to their depth.
  • EVERY Kid Icarus manual that I've ever owned has been a 5/10 or less... Rips/folds/writing/stickers... Just can't seem to win with that one...
  • erik, dan, dain: i agree with all of you. i have 1500+ doubles now, and zelda 1&2, metroid, and kid icarus are damn near impossible to find in mint shape. i think it is partly to do with the paper its made out of and partly to do with popularity, but those are tough to find in good shape. as for the metroid and kid icarus box, the only ones in my collection are the missing box tops i got from erik a while back on NA. i still need those boxes, but the missing top boxes present nicely from the side view for now!
  • So someone basically paid $80 for a mint Kid Icarus box,Becuase the manual was junk and the cart is worth $10 MAX.WOW
  • $80 plus shipping! yup!

i will gladly take my $10 cib from erik with the missing box top!
  • Yep you got a good deal on that Seth... actually all those black boxes were relatively good deal as you said from the side no one would ever know! image

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has trouble with those 4 books. Oh and Dan, I completely agree on MTPO book being always beat up too. I actually had that typed into my original post but then took it out as it didn't flow with my metalic finished covers statement. I agree though 100% though that these were the books that people read and reread over and over again. I can remember reading Zelda and Metroid dozens of times before I was a member of Nintendo Fun Club and got all the hints etc to make the games easier.
  • I think I've had 3 or 4 Kid Icarus manuals in my days, and they were all really beat up except 1 (the one I have now) so yes I agree with you guys that this manual is tough to find in good condition.
  • one of my Nintnedo first purchases (last year) was KI and Kid Nikki, $20 each, both minty as can be.

Shipped in a padded envelope and dented the corner of KI.

I had no idea what they were worth at the time.
  • gotta love padded envelope shipping of boxed games!

i just got non-"rev a" cibs of 5-screw track and field & double dribble in the mail shipped in a padded envelope. no damage to anything, but still, what stupid asshole charges $12 for shipping 2 CIBs and puts them in a bubble envelope. he shipped them priority too! why not put it in a free priority box? amazing!

however, i guess i cant argue with the price! $0.01 + $12 shipping!
  • Every once in a while I'll get a fairly hard to come by CIB and then notice that the quoted shipping is really low. I've started asking for items to be shipped in a box each and every time I buy on eBay, and you'd be shocked at the number of sellers that tell me they would have shipped in a bubble mailer if I hadn't specifically asked for a box.
  • My Kid Icarus box is in pretty bad shape, too. It's definitely one of the games that I'm going to have to get an upgrade for.

    Not sure the manual, though.
  • here is the thread to my games that came in the bubble mailer... http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=10&threadid=10129&enterthread=y check it out, you wont be disappointed in my first "finders keepers" thread! i HAD to post my newest UNRAPED games!!! image

  • I have maybe 10k manuals at the moment, two are Kid Icarus. One is about an 8.5, one is about a 7.
  • I wasn't trying to say that it'd be a picnic to find a good quality manual, but finding one with a cover really isn't that hard. There are three copies on eBay right now that have manuals with them.
