Exp. You go to a local video game store and they have a Stadium Events for $3. When you pick it up and go to check out. The cashier says "This game is really rare! $3 is not the right price!" and bumps the price up to $500.

Or even find a amazing craigslist or ebay find but it's already sold. etc.

So the point is just to read and discuss stories of people's misfortunes.

Well someone made a valid point in another thread.  Check your state laws on price markings.  If it is printed on tag that is on the actual item, most states require them to give it to you for that price.  If its hand written or on a tag in front of the item, then they do not have to give it to you at that price from what I understand.

I remember a time I went into a pawn shop and was looking at their video game selection. It was a nice little selection of games and I asked if they had any gameboy games. The guy says yes and goes behind the counter and takes out an entire BASKET of gameboy games. Of which, half of them were Pokemon games. I do the hard blink and then immediately put on my game face, asking how much they were. He tells me they're all 2 dollars apiece, so I immediately start stacking all the Pokemon games. I hear the door open behind me and an employee walks in, the boss says "Your late" and he apologises. Five minutes later I'm at the cash register getting checked out and he comes from the back, takes one look at the games, and stops him from ringing me up. Needless to say, he said the price was all wrong for those and they were 15-20 apiece.

Really sucked, I was a minute away from getting out of there with a few hundred bucks in games for almost nothing. But, at the end of the day, I did get some pretty sweet N64 controllers for 4 apiece and some random games for half what I knew they were worth. Would have been an epic Poke-score though.

Even so, they should've sold you the games for $2,- It was what had been said...

Really sucks, these things. I've had it happen a few times before, too. Most recently with "The Legend of Zelda: Fours Swords Adventures" for GameCube. The game was in a store which sells practically everything, and they had listed all of their PS2, Xbox and GameCube-games for €3,95. So I wanted to buy the Zelda for that price, since it was a good price, and I could use it for a trade since I already owned it myself.

When I came to the counter to pay for it, they said that it was actually €7,95, even though the sticker on the game itself said it was €3,95. They said it was because it was Zelda, they couldn't sell it to me for €3,95. In the end, I was crazy enough to just buy it for €7,95.

Next time, they must make sure to not change prices randomly when you get to the counter... it's annoying and unfair. What if a young child came in and wanted to buy the game with the €4,- they had left in their little pockets? Would they be sent away with nothing, even though the price on the product indicates they have sufficient money to buy it?

  • I was just started collecting and I knew I wanted to collect n64 right of the bat for nostalgia.

So I heard about getting good deals a gsales and everything so I though i'd try it. I walk up to a sale and see nothing but a n64 controller. (I hadn't bought one yet) So I asked the lady if she had the system yada yada yada. She says yes it's my nieces but shes bringing it tomorrow. I said sweet could she hold it back for me ill drive over after work. She agrees and all is good. Needless to say right when I pull up I see a guy carrying away a Jungle Green N64 with about 40 games. The lady says oh im soo sorry! I then walked away shaking my head, having a painful feeling in my gut -_-
  • THOSE suck ACGame... every time you pull up to a garage sale and someone goes "Yeah, I had a whole bunch of XXX but they went right away!"

Or when people say "I sold all my old games in my last garage sale" -_-
  • Yeah, I wish people would just lie and say they never had anything. Especially since I'm ALREADY waking up at 6:30 in the morning on a Saturday to try to get out there as early as humanely possible. To me it seems like if you live in a reseller rich community you can kiss any chance at finding games goodbye by about 9:00.
  • I would agree. Past 9:00am the only ones I find are by asking.
  • I once missed a Donkey Kong Game&watch for dirt cheap. I saw it in a flea market but some fat, greasy fuck took it right before my eyes.

Some time later I took my revenge on another collector by taking 3 Black Box games right before his eyes >
  • I was on vacation when this got posted and didn't see it until I got back a few days ago. Emailed the seller and they already sold it.

    Do you see it?
  • Unless you are talking about the fact that the boxed games look sealed, I dont know squat about N64. The only rare game I know about is CFSC cause of all the threads here.
  • Daikatana is worth over $200 with box manual and all inserts, and even more if it's sealed.
  • I've never posted on here before, but I'm really kind of pissed about this... There was a Castlevania Dracula X CIB on eBay for $105 BIN, and someone bid $0.99 and got rid of the BIN. This was about 3 minutes after it was posted, and I missed it by 10 seconds. What the hell is wrong with people... why would you watch new listings just so you can bid on them. Unbelievable... it's not in the best shape, but I bet it still goes for over $200.

Wow. I think you should put in a bid of $106 or so right now just to send a message to the first bidder!

In this case I find it totally acceptable to email the seller and offer to buy it right away for the bin price. Fuck that guy that killed the bin .I had to do this once for a nes and games with a Gun Nac hidden in the pile and don't feel the least bit bad about it. There's even a possiblity that tard bid as a temporary hold and will cancel his bid to buy it cheap later when he decides it's ok. Pretty sure I've seen that happen a couple times.

  • Deal posted on CL for some items. Not a bad price either.

    Problem is: wrong phone number.

They posted a crap ton of times and all had the wrong number posted. I didn't call the number, but someone posted saying "STOP CALLING MY NUMBER"

The description was brief, just saying SNES stuff. Pics show some nice stuff.

    EDIT:

Hang on... this could turn in to a Finder thread... my wife is on her way to pick them up as we speak... no email, wrong phone number (but they had several ads and one of them did have the right number )

  • I wanted to buy a copy of Action 52 from NA user cheaterdragon1 (awesome member BTW, check him out(http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=6&threadid=85980)).

Turns out the Swiss post had to open a package with a NES lot I had ordered because... they didn't know the value of the package and how much they should have charged me for my NES lot. I sent them a letter with the PayPal receipt and when I get it... BAM!!! 56 francs in my face because of all this postal shit! That made me a little less rich you can say... Bye Bye action 52!

    My reaction:
  • I went 2 hours away after working out a deal on a MASSIVE N64 game lot. Once I get within 10 minutes of the place the guy calls and says he has a family emergency and needs to bail.. I was like.. I'm 10 minutes away! Then he said he'd call me back in 10 minutes.. So I get to the agreed meeting place and he calls and says he's on his way, it wasn't a big emergency/deal.. I waited for 30 minutes and called him again, and he stopped picking up. Never heard back from him. I was PISSED.. haven't dealt on craigslist since.

Craigslist is basically for people who were THROWN off ebay for shady crap, or people who are just aggrevating to deal with. I think I only have 2 good CL encounters out of probrably 50 or so meetings..
  • I found a guy on Craigslist the other day selling FF3 & Earthbound for $80 together, I messaged him to tell him Earthbound was worth a much more. Turns out someone had offered him $200 for it, which made me happy as he seemed nice, & I didn't want him to get ripped off.

Why? Just why? This makes absolutely no sense. I literally do not have words to finish that sentance.
  • Couple weeks ago at a goodwill I noticed something out of the corner of my eye on a shelf. Walked up and it was a Ocarina of Time Master Quest for gamecube, 1.99. Opened it and there was all the inserts and the disc. I was having a mini dance party in my head by then. Then I realized, it wasn't the right disc. It was an Action Replay disc..

I'd have bought it just for the case and inserts at $1.99.  Plus an Action Replay might be fun

You're not the only one lol it was gone a couple days later too lol

  • I got one from CL a few weeks months ago. Typical Ad for NES System, $100 bucks 25 or so games, Standard System with the wood storage unit that holds the games, games not listed or pictured. I e-mail seller, and she responds with the games. Standard fare, except for 1 Panic Restaurant. I tell her I would like to buy her system, and she agrees. I had my intern meet her, as the city was 1.5 hours away from me (he was already there for a different reason) Calls her, says he is 10 minutes away from her place, about 2 minutes away, a guy calls him back and says the she cannot sell the system because it was not hers, It was either Girlfriend selling Boyfriends, or Sisters Selling Brothers, unsure if they ever knew anything about Panic Restaurant. Needless to say I was disappointed
  • I wrangled up Dragon Warrior IV with the manual, possibly the other paper too, but I'll never know. It was $49 shipped and well my money for now is gone and I have no item. Won it on the 30th, had a 2 day ship period so on the 3rd I ebay mailed the dude asking if it went out. The guy contacts me (only time ever too) saying he tried to send it media mail and the post office held it. I paid for parcel post and media mail got stopped since he broke the rules. He claims to have sent it priority mail and I had mentioned at this rate I needed it quick as I'm moving so he said good luck on that in his response. Well the week rolls by, then the weekend with Columbus Day and nothing still...and still nothing today. eBay refused to open a case for another 2 days despite the delivery window expiring so I went over their head and made a case with paypal. It will take 10 days but unless the con man can provide tracking delivered to this address he'll have his account sucked clean of my cash on the 22nd. So much for a good deal eh?
  • Ouch! And the audacity at that :/
  • The 3 times I have found Wii Kiosks this week sitting in back of Gamestop, only to find them torn to shreds.........yeeeeeeah.
  • Craigslist definitely has a lot of scammers. They say to meet you and then they don't show up. Luckily it hasn't happened to me. Scariest incident that turned out great was when I bought a Turbo Grafx 16 bundle for $70 and we met at a gas station around 10pm LOL...thinking it was a guy, it turned out to be a girl!
  • The only posts on craigslist in my area that are anything retro are mine looking to buy LOL

LOL Every seller in Switzerland seems to be a girl...Nearly every NES lot I bought here was from a girl... at least 75% of them are from girls!
  • My wife works with someone who also has a part time job at Game Stop... as soon as I heard about the Wii kiosks I had her ask about them. Both the store, when I asked, and he said "We are reusing it for the Wii U"

well... that wasn't true... yesterday he informed her they threw it out... but that was either Monday or last Monday... and I checked the garbage yesterday... fresh pickup... eff.
