    Sort of...

If you find a beat to shit selaed copy of Snow Bros., and you have a mint unfolded box of Snow Bros., you could transfer the contents and have a super high graded Q game.

People have called "frankensteining" Q games together into question and some buyers are avoiding them because of a possibility similar to the one you're suggesting.

  • I wonder if an unfolded box is worth more if you turn it into a high grade Q score game.

I do have a Snow Bros. Just need a squashed sealed copy then.

  • I always submit 2-4 days and even while they're backed up the longest I waited was 7. They got another one of my submissions on Friday and their targ date is Wed. We'll see if it gets done within 3 days. I never had any issues other then them slabbing my game with the wrong sticker. Whenever I ask for pop reports I get them within 2 days.

Frankensteining those games is what irks me and why I let go of anything Q related. Not a big fan of any of that. But yeah you could essentially do that and score high.
  • Hey guys

So i just got a game graded and noticed the date on it and was wondering if anyone else had this date on this particular game

it's written as 1988 nintendo nes
  • They have been slow with me just in sending me the invoice. Other than that, I get my grades a day after the projected completion date. And I'm a platinum member. I think they should get their tracker working and do something about their crappy website. I feel bad for Kim and the other person. I bet they answer mad emails all the time. But yeah, email them a few days before and make sure they are on time, then email them on the day...
  • Yeah, got my invoice yesterday, projected completion date 9/4/12. Not too shabby.

For those curious, Asian Version NES game are considered custom sized (not a huge surprise), but so are Game Gear games. Only cost an extra $5 per game, but thought it was worth mentioning for those planning on subbing Game Gear games in the future.

Oval seal is 1988 isn't it?

  • yup that's right - was just wondering if anyone else had this title graded too and what year appears

I've seen another one with 1989
  • ok so ive read this entire thread. and think i might have my answer but want to see what you guys think.

What i truly desire the most is a graded/qualified(doesnt matter) Donkey Kong Competition. I want vga's services to provide proof of the games authenticity. (due to all the fake boxes out there).

After reading qualified standards it seems the check the contacts. im looking at buying a dkcc in great condition but there is no way to know if its been played or not. unless i pull out a microscope myself i guess.

but with that being said, this particular game falls into the same category as NWC and others that never came sealed. does that bare any weight on the situation? i know Moe had a copy graded. I messaged him about it, but couldnt get through to him.

Are there any suggestions on the matter or is my dreams of a verified authentic DKCC just a dream?

Also, how would N64 not for resale games stack up? Since they were never sealed and only used as kiosk models.
  • Well it's not just a dream because as you said Moe has done it already. I send things in all the time that are borderine. The DKCC will prob get graded as standard, but didn't it technically have a box or am I incorrect? It has to have all original components in order to get either grade.
  • yes it has a box. im confused by "it will probably get graded as standard" and "to get either grade". So is it possible for a played game to get graded whatsoever because i have no way of knowing if it did or not?
  • Trying to figure whether it's worth sending in my MM to get graded. By worth it, I mean get at least an 85+. I currently have an 85 and would like to upgrade. Hopefully someone who has "the eye" can chime in. I can't really compare it to my current 85 as it has different issues. This thing looks beautiful except for that damn corner. Assuming the rest of it is perfect how bad would this corner affect the grade:

    Thanks in advance!
  • thats a 85 tops babe.

Thanks for the input. Kinda figured that. Just needed someone else to say it I guess. I would have sent this in regardless if I didn't already have one. I think I will sell and put the money towards something else. Thanks again!
  • Yeah that's pretty substantial, I'd say 85 as well. Though I did see Guillavoie's SMB2 that got 85+ with a similar corner issue... Still 85 tops IMO.

I was actually trying to find that listing to compare. It's probably been down for a while, though.

But that's one of the worst 85+s I've seen. Ultimately grading is subjective, just a VGA opinion is worth more than anyone else's opinion. I think most would agree that some VGA games are subject to interpretation. A good eye is usually within a + or -, but sometimes you get a grade that just confuses you.

The NWC and Zelda proto were both played. They were both graded by VGA.

  • I had a chrono trigger 85+ that had three corners poking out and a crease on the top. I thought it was an 80+ looking at it myself.
  • My Fire n Ice 85+ has the same corner issue as the SMB2 but on the right bottom but the wrap was literally flawless, report stated a low end 85+. The wrap can hold a score together pretty well.

I have an MM3 85+ that has 3 corners poking through as well, again, wrap is solid.

  • I'll ask a noob question but, is it possible to open a VGA case without broke it? I mean is a VGA case is made to be opened?

    Thanks

    lol, found the answer:

I remember seeing this myself and thinking the exact same thing. I guess the rest of the game is prisine mint.

I've submitted several N64 games that you would swear were 85+ by inspecting them closely and they have all come back 85. I've actually found it very hard to grade N64 games at 85+, mine have all come back at 85, every single one. GB games on the other hand, I've had much better luck with..

It's not pristine MINT though, look at the back right bottom corner of the SMB2 and it has another ding almost equally as bad.  I feel it is definitely overgraded but I also understand grading is subjective.  It is also worth noting that the only person who can properly grade a game is the one who touched it raw.  Once it's slabbed, it is much harder to notice any slight bowing / surface abrasions / etc that you would notice in hand and raw.

N64 85+ isn't too bad.  You can get by with a small crease or two or a couple of corner dings.  Even with a wrap tear if it is tiny enough (notice I said tear and not hole, big difference).  If you're frequently gettting 85 that you thought were higher, be sure to look them over at several angles under the light.  The light will illuminate any sratches / scuffs or creases from box bowing (#1 problem on N64 games I've seen).  VGA is fairly conistent for the most part, so you shouldn't get that many surprises.
  • I have a handful of 85+ games that really are pristine w/no corner pokes, almost zero scuff and no creases - I just got back a 1943 that was perfect and it only got 85+ when I thought it was an easy 90-90+ ---now when I buy VGA, I do the same thing I do w/raw copies and just ask for photos - i have found some beautiful 85's this way - that Mario got lucky^^^ - as it looks more like an 80+ - but in general, VGA does a pretty good and consistent job w/only a couple examples out of thousands that get grosly overgraded like that
  • I'm about to make my first submissions. I got the process pretty much down thanks to this thread and the VGA submission center pretty much walks you right through it anyway. My only questions are, what is the difference between the optional grading summary and the Detailed grade report? Could someone post pics of each for comparison?(if it's not too much trouble) Also, in your opinion, is it worth getting either of them? I'd assume youd only want one or the other right? Or are they two different things?

Thank you. this was the reassurance i was looking for. i am going to send mine in in a couple of weeks and ill let ya'll know.
  • Wondering, how are most of the Kid Icarus Uprisings turning out? Since they come in a box I figure a lot may be getting dings.

Just got mine in the mail, and it's pretty nice. Any ideas on a grade? (thumbnails link to larger images)
