Finally Counted Manuals

After weeks of putting off making a list of manuals I needed, I finally sat down tonight and typed out what I still needed. Took me hours to carefully open each box and peek inside. I had no clue what to expect # wise cause I had never counted them before. I was hoping to only need 125 or so, but expected the worst at 250+. Luckily I kinda fell in the middle, I need 193 manuals, including a bunch of variants to have have a full set. That on top of the >100 boxes I have a long road ahead of me. Just had to get out a little frustration, I was hoping to be closer.....

  • you might still have a long road ahead of you, but you're still a hell of a lot closer than most people, good luck bro.
  • Man, that sounded like an arduous task. The moral of the story is: catalog everything as it comes in. It may seem like a waste of time, but that 5 extra minutes per day or per game will save you hours in the long run.

Good luck with the hunt man.
  • That is the plan now, that is what I have been doing with boxes for a while now. I had just been putting off cataloging manuals cause it blows balls to open 900 NES boxes and close them all back. Thank god it is done though.

  • I used to use Notepad for a lot of this, but once the titles started getting higher, I thought that something better would be needed and I switched to Excel.  I basically catalogue the games alphabetically with Licensed first then unlicensed.  I note the quantity on hand, any pending, any I plan to sell as well as the status of having manuals and boxes.  It helps with knowing what manuals I need.  I actually have it color coded for some things too.

    It certainly makes things simpler.
  • only thing is I always run across nicer stuff and always go back thru to see if the cart or manual is in better shape. so I end up going thru boxes several times
  • My problem too wrldstrman... Going through 1200 boxes sucks... I keep waiting and hoping just short of holding my breath for Dain to get the time to get the collection tool up. I think he said we could track condition of our stuff in it. That would be sooooooo helpful to just be able to pull it up and see what the condition of say our Little Samson manual was and know without having to open up the damn box every single time.

Oh and Jason, when I get back home hit me up with your list. Like I said I just got Mark, Parpunk 173 manuals closer to his collection, not to mention I probably have some boxes you need.

  • I hear ya, Erik -- I want the tool for the very same reason, and I'm the one building it! Here's the main problem: I need a server to put it on. I could have the tool finished up in a week (it's 90% done), but I'm hesitant to release anything that will bog this site down even more. How frustrating would that be to have a collector's tool and not be able to use it?

  • Well if you would quite buying houses, NWCs, and knocking your woman up you could afford a new server image image image image Could have it done in less than a week though, that sounds very promising. cough cough beta tester cough cough image

Hit me up on AIM when you get back Erik and I will send over my list.
