bad tsop?

Got a new batch of TSOP in the other day and tried to burn some files and kept getting the following error every single time;

Verify Failed, Address=0x000000, Device=0xFF, Buffer=0x00

I've tried erasing the chips multiple times and every single time I get that error. I can get the chips to ID, blank test, erase, and that's it. Every time I read the chips back they're always empty. I've checked pin connections multiple times, I can't find any user error.

I think the chips might of gotten fried due to static as the vendor didn't put them in any anti-static shielding. I don't know if that would explain this or what's going on.

I get the same error on two programmers that have and currently still go program tsop just fine as I had a chip left over from another shipment that is programming and verifying between both units flawlessly.

Anyone have any insight?

  • Are all of them doing this? I have the occasional one that will blank, then burn and get stuck 3/4 the way through.
  • Every single one
  • have you successfully burned chips before with your current set up?

  • Oops, sorry for not reading!

I would contact the seller and ask for a refund/exchange then.
  • Yeah, I guess that's the only option left. Unfortunately my vendor is on vacation for a week so I'm TSOL there.

Anyone have the exact same issue and get past it? Anyone?

EDIT : I found 1 single working chip in the entire batch. Wow.
  • I ordered from Quest before and was 0 for 15 on chips I sent some out and no one could get any of the chips to work. I ordered from buyicnow and was 5 for 5. But since you said vacation for a week I will guess buyicnow?
  • I've dealt with buyicnow and didn't like the way they sent the chips, the postage costs, etc. They did work but I did get one or two duds. These came from a chinese distributor I shall not name. I don't want to hurt the guy's business, he's making the order right and thats all that matters. It just sucks its going to take a week + to get them replaced.
  • buyicnow wont carry tsops 29f032B anymore :S

    Why not?

    discountinued and hard to get.

I found another memory that would be compatible  but  has a different pin out, so I need to get a adapter done.

  • I have 120 left over, but since they're becoming so scare i'm not sure if I would sell these easily

of course you would sell them easily, but I recommend you sell them at higher price
  • Damn, I was enjoying their already constructed boards, it was worth saving time.
  • I've got 36 or so left from when I bought 50 from a guy selling about 200 chips (both 75 and 90ns). They came out at about $3.50 per chip. Glad I bulk bought now!

Buyicnow have 4 120ns 29f032s (TSOP only)  in stock if anyone is interested.
  • they sell on ebay for $18-20

I don't think he meant that they wouldn't sell easily, but that HE won't SELL them easily, so he has some for when he needs them.
  • This may be off topic to some but I'm getting an issue where i have flashes a am29f032 on a tsop adapter III and now it wont erase. i did a blank cheek and it says not blank but the program says erased completed. most of the bits read ff but some still have data in them. i was trying to make bahamut lagoon but it didn't work so I figured I didn't prep the rom right so i went to start over and now i cant wright to it.
  • this is a little late in the game, but buy ic's from jameco. They are reasonable, ship well, and have great customer service if things don't work well. I have had the occasional part that doesn't work, and they send out a new one right away, and they don't even bother with the broken one.
  • I have some extra Brand New in the reel packaging AM29f032B. I would be willing to sell some of these for $12 each. Plus shipping, remember these are brand new, not used.

  • Thanks for the offer, I quit offering modifications a while ago so I'm not interested.

Someone will be locking this thread shortly.

The problem was a voltage discrepancy on a programmer is all, I just never got back to reply to the OP problem.
