What do I do ? (Ebay issue)

I just sold an item on ebay. I listed it as shipping to : US. But the person that bought it is in Italy (not sure why the person bid honestly). Its a heavy item and I listed the shipping as $9.00 with tracking ...

Is it possible to track an item overseas? And how much difference is shipping international. The item weighs about 5 lbs.

  • cancel the transaction with the reason being you don't ship to their country. they will have to agree to cancel. but even if they don't i think you have a shot at closing the case in your favor
  • Request to cancel on the terms you don't ship to their country (or possible an unconfirmed address?)

If you listed that you only ship in the US then ebay will most def side in your favor if the case gets escalated.
  • Do Not ship to Italy. Most corrupt post office in the world...
  • shipping something that weighs 5 lbs with a tracking number overseas would be outrageously expensive!!
  • What nesman said. The only way I will even think about shipping to Italy is if the buyers pays for registered mail. It requires a signature every time it changes hands so no shady postal worker can steal it. It's an extra $11.75 and I have had a few buyers agree to those terms. Never had an issue when I sent to Italy as a registered package.
  • I've listed us only and had a guy in Europe win I called eBay And they closed the case
  • i have heard many bad things all around about italy, but have never shipped there.

was funny i bought a sonic SMS cart from uk, have it a dew years, slap it on ebay, someone from uk bought it got shipped back home LOL
  • I clicked to cancel the transaction. Now its waiting on the other guy ... but I noticed something. If he declines to cancel, the transaction closes and Im still liable for the Ebay fees. That seems a little off. I cant imagine why he would be allowed to decline.
  • I really don't understand why Ebay defaults to shipping worldwide even when you only specify rates to one country. You have to manually add an exclusion list for every auction you create, otherwise anyone can bid. This is what you were supposed to do if you "only ship to the USA".

The alternative is to go ahead and calculate the shipping cost with registered mail and send him an invoice. If he doesn't pay it, you can file a claim for your fees. If he does, then you just ship it. Just be sure to use an online trackable method to a confirmed address only, and yes, with Italy and Brazil, you definitely want some sort of signature.

  • When K.Thrower and I first started an eBay store we only offered U.S. shipping. We had several items that were purchased by buyers outside of the U.S., so we shipped them anyways to maintain a good repoire. Once we started offering worldwide shipping, we started selling 2-3 times as much. We have shipped to Italy several times without any issues.
