Goo Gone ?

Would it be safe/effective to clean permanent marker and stickers off of carts and systems with Goo Gone ? Im scared it might burn into the plastic. (I have never used Goo Gone)

Thanks !

  • Yep, Goo-Gone is safe for the cartridge plastic. Just make sure you don't get any near the label corners

I believe this is mentioned in the Help Wanted FAQ we recently threw together: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=8&threadid=85553
  • Just don't use the extreme Goo-Gone. That will do some damage.
  • Thanks for the info.

Currently reading the FAQ. Seems to be filled with some good info
  • Regular Goo Gone is safe but be very careful when cleaning near the label! I've seen it soak into labels or start them peeling if the get under the edge.
  • and don't get it confused with Goof-Off like I did, lol

^This. The extreme shit is caustic and will says it can ruin CAR PAINT on the bottle...

I've used the regular stuff a ton, but one little drop on the lable can be a problem, so be careful!
  • I switched to using Magic Erasers for marker since they seem to work a lot better, but I still use Goo Gone on sticker glue.

Yes, good point to note! Goof-Off is a very strong solvent that will instantly melt the plastic surface, Goo-Gone is a oily citric acid mixture, leaves a nice shiny finish- it's armor-all for your carts!

Also, stay away from the label as other have said, it will darken the label if you get it too close (from wetness), and will fade back to normal eventually but I'd worry that it disolves the adhesive below.

Did this.  Smoothed out the plastic on the gray cartridge.  Fortunately it was on my copy of Golf.  =)
  • The best trick I've learned over the years is the 'Dry-Erase Marker' Trick. I was very skeptical of it before I tried it but it has been a life saver for removing marker.

You take a DRY-ERASE Marker, and fill in the area over the permanent marker, and then let it dry for a few minutes. Then you take a really good dry-erase eraser, and wipe off the marker. It may take a few runs, but it usually works for me. It does tend to spread-out the dry-erase marker a bit as you are erasing, so after I am done wiping with the eraser, I usually have to use a non-abrasive liquid cleaner to clean off the 'residue,' but usually the end result is well worth it.

Obviously you would have to be careful not to color all over labels and such, so I'm talking about marker on plastic.

Something to try if you haven't tried it before.
  • Yes it works just fine, just try to keep it on the plastic and not on the label. For note: I have used this on the label of some games before with no problems, and I have used it on the labels of other games and had some of the grease type staining. It depends on the quality of the label and how long you let it sit for to loosen up the sticker crap.
  • I use the citrus goo gone, it seems to work well for removing marker, as well in removing lingering labels on carts im using as donors
