Do I use an item the seller claims is NEW??

I purchased this U-Force controller CIB in an online auction for 35$ shipped. The seller claims that it is New and has never been used. The sellers rating is 98.7%, but i'm a little eerie. If it was sealed, it would be one thing, but these are the actual pictures from the ad..

As a collector and gamer, when it arrives, should i play it, mess around with it a little, and make sure it works; or do I leave it as "New and unplayed" and trust the seller is true to his claims?

  • I would think it's not new.

If someone says it's new but it's not factory sealed I instantly take what they say as rubbish. Why would anybody bother to open something but not use it?

So yep - I'm calling their bluff and suggest to either return it or use it.

  • Most of the larger accessories didnt come sealed. I'm not sure on the uforce, but I don't think it was sealed. I would try it out if you want, it's not going to make a big value difference.
  • "...but i'm a little eerie"

    And you are from Indiana.
  • I remember seeing a couple U-forces at Kmart in the late 90's these weren't sealed I would word it as it appears to be new and unplayed, but I cannot say for certain.
  • How could the seller be confident that it's new and never used? This thing is 15+ years old - did he buy it off the shelf and then put it immediately in storage? I think the best you can do is assume it's 'like new, original packaging' but to say it's new and never used is quite a stretch.
  • Just as the seller could have easily used it without detection, so could you. Try it out. No one else will believe it is unused, either.
  • Does it really matter? I mean, it's a U-Force. You're going to do exactly what the original owner did - take it out, play with it for a half hour, realize that it doesn't work as well as the regular controller, and put it back in the box.

Chances are, someone did use it. Then put it away. Then 15 years later, they found it in the closet, and sold it on eBay...

Don't worry about every little tiny detail. Have fun with it - that's what it was meant for.

+1    I never believe anything's really new unless it's sealed, i'm sure most other people are the same way.
  • I love Nintendo's misc goofy accessories. I bought it with the intention of playing it, and for the price, I think i can afford to de-virginize it if thats the case.

**Thank You guys for the input. It should be here in the next couple days!!

Next step: Boxed ROB, Boxed Konami Laserscope, and Boxed Miracle Keyboard (if possible to find)!
  • Play it once , realize it is near impossible to use and put it on your shelf as gently used
  • For those who say the Uforce is impossible to use for real gaming:

  • For the OP's question: I guess that if you find absolutely NO scratches on the shiny surface of the control (as well as on the outside), you can believe the seller with 90% confidence. The inside is very easily scratched.
  • Got it in today.. i can tell it wasn't new and unused, but for 35 bucks, It is still in great working condition and doesn't look bad..

It takes a lot of getting used to, but it does work for all those haters lol

    Thanks everyone for the advice
