A Question About Going Prices for Games in Different Regions

I'm just curious as to why Japanese SNES/N64 games can be picked up for dirt cheap and North American games still demand a high price (in comparison). Like take for instance Mario Parties on the N64, the North American ones have a price at abour lets say 30-40 CIB, a little higher for MP3, and the Japanese equivilent fetches $10 or less CIB. Despite the fact they are both very common in both regions of the world.

  • perceived demand, game store owners know that people will always want to play a known franchise (Mario especially) and therefore keep the rates high knowing that they will make the sale.
  • my guess is only some jap games are in english. also probably a lot of people dont know that just removing some plastic inside the us consoles will work. thus meaning not much demand for them.
  • Well like even in Japan, these games are dirt cheap, CIB or loose, the prices tend to not to be far apart. Like I'm able to buy CIB Mario Party games for $6 each, I'd be lucky to get the NTSC manual for that much. Same game though, just in a different language which doesn't matter much since it's not a reading game.
  • Indiana Jones Famicom = 25+ (sometimes up to 70 loose)

Indiana Jones SNES = 10 loose.
  • well japan does have alot more games released over there. they probably have something better to play than mario party lol.
