Final Fantasy Collection
Hi,
I've been meaning to get around to taking a photo of my Final Fantasy colelction for a while. I just got the PSP version of Final Fantasy Tactics through the post today and felt and as I have some free time I could do it.
I am don't really consider myself as a collector, if I have games in my collection I don't play I wont hesitate to get rid of them. But when it comes to Final Fantasy I am very different. Mind you I still set out to collect only the games, guides, soundtracks and artbooks. Toys and other such things don't do it for me, even in a series I am so passionate about.
Firstly the guides:

Piggybacks tend to feel more official to me. I looked at the Final Fantasy IX US guide and thought it looked ugly. The Crisis Core & Dirge of Cerberus guide were mainly sold in america. Since Final Fantasy XII, they have been doing Hardback guides. so ever since then I have gone for them.
And now the games:

What I love about the PAL packages is how pure they seem, the american covers have all these characters in poses and it just looks like a tacky poster. But in Europe we recieve each Final Fantasy with a lovely bold logo over a white background. No other video game covers appear so striking.
Of course not all of them are, are like that, the FFVII Spin-offs have standard cover designs, but they're side projects so I can accept that. I was very annoyed that the original Final Fantasy XIII cover has Lightning on it, it was the 1st game to step outside the tradition and it was lousy, luckily the Special Edition of FFXIII just has the logo. Also, the cover for the Special edition of XIII-2 has the full logo contained on it, the standard release covers have the logo cut off.
I have a few US releases of Final Fantasy on the PS Store too, so the aspect ratio is full screen. I recently got Final Fantasy Tactics, but I don't tend to enjoy Strategy RPG's so I doubt I'll get the Tactics Adavnced games. I have the sountracks for VII & IX, I am still after the Soundtracks for VI, VIII & X and will hopefully get them soon.
Oh and of course I also have my 'The Art of Final Fantasy IX' book, which I utterly adore

I think that's quite a lot for a collector who does not just collect for collectings sake

Because I adore the series, you'll notice not one of them titles are sealed and I intend to play every single one of them! I'm easily 80% through the lot. I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VI, a game I got so close to completing but stopped for some reason. I'm getting close to finishing it and then I intend to tackle both Final Fantasy X & X-2 as I never completed X-2...

So you collect just for the sake of liking Final Fantasy?
Not because you like to collect games?
Or you just really like to buy Final Fantasy games but don't like to collect?
I have many PS1/PS2/PS3 titles, I also have a Dreamcast, but if Shenmue ever got a HD release I would sell it in a heartbeat. I also have a Wii, which I got this year to play The Last Story/ Pandora's Tower and Xenoblade. I have a PSP & DS too with roughly 35 games overall (Probably half which are Square-Enix)
As for Final Fantasy, I want to have all the main games of the series (Not counting XI or XIV as they are online titles - and I refuse to pay monthly fee's for any game.) So I mainly collect the game for Playstation consoles, Guides, Soundtracks - I currently have the Final Fantasy IX Soundtrack in my Stereo disc tray and Artbooks. But like I said, these are all to enjoy.
Final Fantasy XIII-2, was okay, not up to the Final Fantasy standard, but still enjoyable, but the story has become so convoluted I have no idea where it is or where it is going. But it did fix some faults of the original game like how when the main character dies it now switches to the other party member and it had a strongly developed antagonist, I intend to play it again before this next game comes out, whatever form in may be. But in general I like each Final Fantasy to be a new experience, I am not keen on sequels within the series.
That FF9 art book has been on my list for a looong time. I remember passing it up numerous times in Gamestop. Kicking myself everytime I think of it.
Yuna: [after LeBlanc breaks into the airship] Oh poopie.
Rikku: Yunie, don't talk like that.
Yuna: I'm just copying you!
As for the DS games, I have yet to play them, a port of the 3D Final Fantasy III from the DS went onto the PSP recently, I did a side by side comparison and noticed how clearer the image was on the PSP, but from the 3 hours I played of it, it seems to play very well. There is a DS Version on Final Fantasy IV, But I feel these games should be played in 2D so I went for the PSP version which sprites are so sharp and clear it's the perfect version in my opinion.
I can never decided between my favourite Final Fantasy, I have only been able to narrow it down from VII - X, I am now playing VI and already starting to reconsider it VI - X But for me Final Fantasy was easily in it's prime for the PS1. Out of all 3 games, there is bound to be something for everyone.
What is your favourite FF song/music track?
There are many, but mine is The Man with the Machine Gun (from FF VIII)
Laguna's Battle theme is pretty epic, especially suiting Final Fantasy VIII's futuristic style.

To Zanarkand from FFX for me , so much emotions in that song!
That was one of the tracks that Distant Wolrds perfromed at the Royal Albert Hall this year, had me trembling
Nope, I couldn't afford it. The only other items that come with it are a t-shirt and the full soundtrack, one which I wasn't too fond of beforehand anyway to be honest.
I do focus a lot on Squaresoft and Square Enix titles myself.
i just saw Distant worlds in Adelaide, AUS personally i cant go past Battle on the big Bridge, that was amazing!

What piece do you value the most out of your collection? I would probably say that FF9 art book.
While 'The Art of Final Fantasy IX' is certainly the treasure, for me I think it is juts having an original copy of Final Fantasy VII, VIII & IX - These titles are the reason I play games and inspirted me to tak an interest in story telling within media. So while they are not rare I think i still appreciate having them most.
