Another Top Loader Question

I recently picked up a Top Loader. I've heard these were way more reliable than the original NES, but this one is still giving me problems. Some games play fine, but to get others to work, I have to move the cartridge around for it to make a good connection. Is something loose, or does the connecter just need a good cleaning?

  • It probably does need to be cleaned, as do your games. You can clean the games with q-tips and 91% isopropyl alcohol (both available from the drug store). The console is very easy to clean as well, simply wrap a piece of clean paper around the edge of a credit card (or just fold up the paper to get it the right thickness of the cartridge board), wet the edge of the paper with the alcohol and insert it straight into the slot and pull straight back up. Repeat until you stop getting black lines on the paper. Don't scrub it side to side, you risk bending the pins.

  • Ok, thanks!. I've cleaned the games, but not the console. Will do that soon. The fact that I'm basically having to wiggle the games around to connect means it's probably dirty.
