Message/Post Number
This is done over at another forum I spend time at. They have littl numbers somewhere on the post information line that indicate what number of post in the thread it is. So for example the first post would be 1 the next post would be 2 and so on, you get the idea. Really nice for multi page threads, espeically when everybody uses different post count per page.
Easier to say refer to post 26 rather than , refer to the post by "JoeUser" a few pages back, then you got to figure out which post is being referred to. I know I could always use the time stamp, but who wants to say look at post 11/23/2012 05:10:22 am.
I know threads on that site get into the thousands of posts, but theres a few here that break a hundred where it'd be useful.
Could possible look something like this,
