Ni No Kuni: Wizards Edition

For those that have been ollowing this beautiful looking game, you may know that Club Namco was the only place to get the Wizard Edition of the game (currently not for sale anymore) and on top of this, Namco promoted a neat feature that more companies should follow.

For the release, Namco started something called a "Ninostarter". The concept was the more people that preordered, the sweeter the Wizards Edition would be (the official website has gone down). Each preorder goal would add an item to the set and give fans a little more for the lowly cost of $99 for this already amazing collectors edition. The goals were to be met before a certain date and only 2 were complete.

The original set comes in a beautiful white box with the game, a 340 page wizards companion which is also used by (the main character) Oliver in the game, a Drippy character plush, and 2 golden familiars for the game. The bonuses for completing the preorder goals were a gold Ni No Kuni coin and 5 really nice art prints. Even though only 2 goals were met, Namco still added one more bonus: a special music selection cd.

Just recently all the photos of these items were posted and I'm here simply to show my excitement for these items. I cannot wait for this game and have also ordered it at Gamestop just for the steelbook case.

And last, the steel book that you get when you pre-order at Gamestop.

  • Ive been following this since the announcement. I have the same two pre-orders you listed. Lamestop also had an issue of one of their magazines that featured this game with Oliver on the front cover and Drippy on the back. PSNetwork has a free downloadable demo. I also have some video links for anyone wanting to see.

  • Not a fan of this game genre but i've got it pre-ordered anyway cos it looks so damn cool. Sadly no steelbook for us in the UK . . .which is a bummer.
  • Does anyone know where I can get this in the UK -Amazon is sold out apparently...
  • Thank you so much! I swear I checked GAME before and it wasn't on there. Is there a difference between GAME and Zavvi's - I the box is different.

I was lucky enough to find an extra copy of that Game Informer at a Gamestop and they gave it to me for free. I had got the Beyond 2 Souls before.

I really like that gold tint! So much easier to make it look clean.
  • can't wait till this one is out, looks so amazing!

No you are correct. GAME recently had it listed as sold out when i checked for availability. The only place i could find it still on sale was Shopto which means everybody else has "found" a few more copies.

  • I really think this will be in for running of Game of the Year, along with Beyond 2 Souls and The Last of Us. I was hoping Sly Cooper 4 would make it, but I know games like that never get the hype these other games do.
  • TLOU is defiantly my most anticipated game of 2013.

    Game of the Year 2013 will be . . . . . . .

     . . .Bioshock Infinite

  • I was thinking about pre-ordering, thinking over it to much. Happy that my local OPM magazine already did a review, the game scored 87/100, which isn't WOW, but still, as a JRPG fan, I had to buy this.

Luckily I could still pre-order it on bol.com and looking forward to the package at the end of January. Paid 77,49 euro, still had a 2,5 euro discount code.

In the Game Mania stores the pre-orders were already sold out
  • Despite what people are reviewing this, I want it. The look reminds me so much of one of my favorite PS2 RPG's in Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King.
  • Just a shout out to anyone in the UK that missed out on the Special Edition - GAME are giving people a pre-order bonus of the Wizard's Book. Which is strange as this is the reason I wanted to buy the special edition in the first place. So I am saving myself the price of paying for the special edition and getting the content I want

  • "Your 300 page Hardcover Wizard's companion book, in Japanese, will be delivered with your preorder."
  • I did notice that, but I have to say it really does not bother me as I mainly want it for the art work and I've I can save £30 in the process I'm ore than happy to. Mind you, if it is not being released in English text and the Special Edition version is - Why does GAME have a load of Japanese editions in stock?
  • 12 MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!
  • Oh, I thought all of you guys already knew. the game has been delayed till the 1st of February (1 week delay) because of some logistic problems.

We will all get an extra Draggle familiar as compensation.

    http://www.playstationpure.be/blog/item/11852/Ni-No-Kuni-wordt-n-week-uitgesteld
  • I had heard that it was being pushed back a bit but only by 3 days. I hadnt heard of the February release date or the extra familiar ... and I cant read that site you linked

    *EDIT* just found this

    http://www.computerandvideogames.com/385490/ni-no-kuni-delayed-by-a-week-in-europe-and-australasia/?cid=otc-rss&attr=cvg-general-rss&site=uk

It says its only in Europe and Australia the delay. Wonder if that means only those places are getting the free familiar or if everyone is. While I would like it if everyone did, I could see why it could possibly only be the delayed areas.
  • Well I just started Xenoblade Chronicles so I can wait for a few days extra
  • I tried the demo. Not keen on the battle system...seems all over the place. Shame, nice looking game otherwise.
  • Played the demo too yesterday. The text boxes are a little bit annoying and yes, it's not an oldskool battle system I wished it would be. But the gameplay is smooth and the game looks stunning. With a good story I think I will be proud with this one on the shelf.
  • Seems a lot of people had their orders pulled... Really crappy. I just got my confirmation so I'm excited, but it still sucks for those who didn't. I'll be posting pictures of the CE, display box, steel case, and guide once it comes in.

What a pain... Still please post pics when you get it, I'd love to see it. I am only getting the game, but I did order from GAME so i will be getting a Japanese copy of the Wizards Book, just have to wait to the UK release date - Luckily I have Xenoblade to keep me company.

  • I already have my steelbook ... my wizard's edition is going to arrive today. If I can find a camera worth a shit, Ill try to post some pics.

Do you have it yet? I have to wait for my EU Wizard Edition! Will be here on Feb. 1, I hope!

Also, I am contemplating buying the guide... but if I do, I won't have any use for the DLC. Anyone interested?

    It's US DLC, of course...

  • My wizard's edition just arrived. Its pretty nicely done. If you decide you dont want the download stuff, let me know. I can find a use for them (and I dont mean to sell).
  • The guide is well worth it! I picked mine up from a different store since the one my pre-order was at sold out. It's got over 400 pages of walk through, interviews, item and familiar lists, and much more. It's really an amazing addition to this beautiful game.
  • Almost 10 hours into the game and I love it! I haven't had this great of an experience from a current gen RPG since Valkyria Chronicles! While I'm only 30 hours or so into Tales of Graces F, I can say so far Ni No Kuni surpasses it in almost every way except one: the characters connection. Now while it's still early, my wife and I both fell in love with Sophie from Tales. Ni No Kuni has that charm, but just not enough to pass her on the list of likable characters.

The only game I can compare it to is Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King, with a battle system that's mixed with Tales and, to an extent, Pokemon. I love it and can only hope the DS version makes it way over for those who aren't as lucky to own a PS3.
