Obviously, 250 grand is a shit load of money, but what I always say to people, is that it is not life-changing money. With 250 grand, he: Paid off his house, bought a new car, bought some new lawn cutting stuff (he lives on a farm), put his 3 kids through school ($5,000 a year, 4 years each, 3 people adds up), took his daughters on a bit of a shopping spree, put some in the bank, and now he's living comfortable. Basically, it just made life a little easier for him.

Anything like a million or higher would change your life.

I'd call that life changing. Not having to worry about a mortgage, car payment and paying for college for 3 kids is a BIG deal!

$250,000 wouldn't pay for half of my house...... image

It's funny because it completely depends on where you live... $250,000 would pay for 2 of my house and we have a nice 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 story house. image  I love the area I live in.

  • Mines a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo. But as you say...it's all about location.
  • Yeah...And any location in WI sucks Balls!!
  • house prices have not dropped at all here in my area (south central PA)... it sucks! i want to buy a house, but prices are still too high, so i will continue to pay rent and gain no equity! image
  • I won the lottery but didnt win the jackpot though. I got $10 000! I bought a car.
  • my local independant supermarket is really small but have had this promotion to buy 2 small chocolate bars (my wife loves chocolate, I dont) and then write yr name and number on the reciept then they were meant to draw the prize of a Wii at the start of this month...

trouble is you buy yr bars then say "may I please enter the Wii competition?" then they huff and puff like its a big pain in the arse, slowly give you a pen, you scribble yr name and number on it then watch them as they make a really big deal out of folding it in half then shoving it in the comp box behind them...ive been going in about every second day since the comp opened and making the counter jockeys poke the thing in the box with all the rolling of their eyes at me its sort of funny. I was in there just a few day after it "closed" and they took a look at me and just say "not drawn yet!"

haha ill be back in there soon
  • I don't play lotto, but I love to gamble on sports. I've won some decent amounts doing that, but nothing earth shattering. My ex girlfriend's dad won 100K playing the lotto earlier this year.
  • My dad's buddy found a $50,000 lottery ticket on the ground!  He was walking through the mall and saw a Powerball  ticket on the ground.  It had just been some huge record setting drawing, and for some reason, he picked it up(I don't know how many tickets I've seen on the ground and just figured it's trash-if it was a winner, it wouldn't be on the ground!).  Anyway, it ended up being like 5 numbers and not the powerball, or whatever gets you $50,000.  Could you imagine?!!  He probably pooped his pants!!

Don't feel too bad.  You gain very little equity for the first couple of years anyway image
  • Never won anything worthwile in a lottery but won over 10k on the 1 dollar monopoly slots at treasure island Las Vegas in July image
  • I won $500 just the other day with a contest on my sports betting site. They put me on the home page: http://www.centsports.com/?opcode=206707
