Super Mario Xmas: ReKringled CIB by www.nes-city.com

  • I am author original hack Super Mario Xmas. Please fix the mistake.

Why you use my development, without my permission?

  • Umm, you mean the original author is not correctly credited? It was uploaded to ROM hacking.net until TLT. That same name was on the title screen of the original.

I had no way of contacting the original author. I really liked the graphics and music edits, but the levels were garbage. So I added some good ones into the game.

If it makes you feel any better, I did not receive any profits from this hack. I did it strictly as a hobby.
  • I sent that user a PM. This is a first for me, so I am proceeding with caution. It was also to my understanding that TLT created this. As you put it Guntz, if it were anyone else, why put TLT on the title screen? I searched quite a bit this morning and everything comes back to TLT, not a word about "Cari." I had reached out to TLT from the various contact information I found way back when and I never received a response. (He hasn't logged into RH.net since 2011). Anyway, I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt so I've removed that box/manual/label from my site until I can get further information. I did request from CARI that he or she provide some type of proof to back up their claim. I mean anyone can claim that they made something, its proving it thats tough. So I wait to hear back from that user and we'll see how this goes.

However, IMHO, this seems a little fishy.
  • ToF Team copyright why was erased?

    Look video

    Time 7:30

There it is written: Authors: Cari and TLT, There is ToF Team.

    TLT make promotion (PR) hack.

Interesting, I'm having a little trouble understanding you, but that seem be good to me. I'll make sure to accredit you going forward.  But in our defense Romhacking.net where the ROM came from makes no mention of you. You may want to contact them so going forward you receive the credit you deserve. Thanks for clearing that up.

Oh geez, I remember seeing that stage, but it never occurred to me that those were credits! Many apologies. In my defense though, there wouldn't have been enough room on the title screen for all that.

I have never claimed to own this hack, even in the first thread I made about it.

I'm sorry but the levels were not very good. Even as a "hard" hack, the levels were terrible. Lots of repitition, no creativity and bland. Try downloading the re-kringled version, latest version is 1.01. It features around 22 levels, like up to World 5 plus two levels. The early levels are mild, enough for anyone to enjoy, but World 4 (last one) is very difficult, but with creativity and intelligent design. World 5 can be accessed through the warp zone. The other two levels can be found by using the minus world glitch. Here's a download:

You sound upset, even in your restricted English. What do you want from us?

Things like this rub me the wrong way. I respect you and all, man, but you should go easy on stuff like that. You don't want to discourage him from further work. Regardless of what you think of the levels personally or whether they needed replacement, he and his friend put a lot of work into their hack and that should be admirable. Not "well they were shit anyway so yeah"

  • I wouldn't have re-worked all the levels if I didn't like what the hack accomplished. The graphics were fantastic, absolutely great. The music was real nice too, even if it wasn't quite Christmas-related. It was the levels that were the big problem. It really disappointing to start up Super Mario Xmas, see all the excellent artwork and find out the levels flat out sucked. So much potential was there, but from what I saw, it wasn't taken advantage of. The text was unreadable in it's old font too, so I changed them.

It's all my opinion though, you can all ignore it, wouldn't bother me. I just felt such a great hack deserved better level design, so I did that. This Cari person is free to disown Re-Kringled if he/she/it wants.
  • If still available put me down for one please
  • The Limited Edition Red release by NES-City was completed last year, February 2012. I think it's safe to say that it isn't available. You can buy the manual from NES-City still, but for some weird reason, the box isn't available anymore:

TheNESDump also offers loose carts of Re-Kringled:

Be sure to thank Cari, TLT and the ToF Team for making the original version possible. Their artwork rules. I guess if Re-Kringled isn't hard enough for you, there's always the original Super Mario Xmas.

The LE Red isn't available, but the all the fixings to make a standard CIB are very available to you Joe. PM me if you're interested.

I put it back up and added Cari as one of the original designers. I had taken it down as I wanted to get a better understanding of what had happened today. I think that we're there at this point. Going forward Cari will be noted as the original co-designer.

I would certainly agree with Guntz about their artwork, top notch, that is one of the reasons that I wanted to do a CIB, this is by far one of my favorite games.

Yeah, and I get that, but you really shouldn't be so blunt when this guy probably put a lot of time into his work and you enjoyed some of it.
  • I understand what you mean.
  • I want that you fix author in your hack.

My levels hardcore for Old School gamers.
  • Ok so you want the ROM to be modified to give proper credit. But, to who? Do you want me to change "TLT" to "Cari"? Or something along those lines? There's barely any room for text on the title screen.

Extremely hard hacks were cool like, 6 years ago. Most people like hacks that can actually be beaten. That's what Re-Kringled tries to fill. It doesn't make the original Super Mario Xmas obsolete.

While you're here though, I'd like to know why Bowser was changed to Sonic. I would have expected The Grinch, or some other Christmas villain. Why Sonic?
  • Write CARI or ToF Studio / TOF / TOF Team

After all it was pleasant to you to see he?
  • Alright, I'll dig out my old tools and change the text, it'll be Re-Kringled 1.02.

Honestly, I thought it was weird to see Sonic in a Christmas themed hack. I almost though, being that Sonic was green, you guys were implying he was a Grinch. It's pretty amusing, but only in a Mario VS Sonic view of things, not Christmas.
  • Here you guys go, Super Mario Xmas: Re-Kringled 1.02:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?0xcz0a82xnhd4ac

"2007 TLT" has been changed to "2007 TOF Team".

Fsped09, I recommend you update to this version. Can someone get this ROM update to coinheaven?

Updated! I'll get this over to Joe, thanks Guntz

  • Hi, sorry to reply to a topic from almost 5 years ago but I've been looking for the 1.01 and 1.02 versions of this patch everywhere but haven't been able to find them and the links here are understandably dead at this point. Any chance of reuploading them? Thanks!

Next time send a private message. No need to Necrobump.

I didn't know who to message exactly, and the topic is still open. Also, I think that it would be beneficial to reupload the links for everyone (or let everyone know that they're not available anymore if that's the case) instead of handling this on a case by case basis via PM. If I'm wrong or this causes an inconvenience to anyone I do apologize.
