PLEASE LOCK

Hello NA,

I've added more information to the lot, and found that the damage initially presented is much more material upon closer inspection. I think it is unfair to proceed with this auction as it is.

I will repost this auction, with a more proper description.

I sincerely apologize for this mess as it was not my intention to misrepresent the lot. If a mod will please lock this thread, I would appreciate it greatly.

Ben

Greetings NA!

A rainy Saturday this morning meant that I was not out hunting at yard sales this morning. I decided to clean up around the house and found a giant box marked "Nintendo Magazines". I open it up and realize that I bought the box at a yard sale some time ago, didn't have the time to look through it, set it aside, and completely forgot about it.

Inside, that box is CRAMMED FULL of EARLY Nintendo Power Magazines, guides, miscellaneous magazines, maps, posters, mailing advertisements and catalogs, and miscellaneous stuff. I had a blast looking through it.

However, I don't have the space to keep and cherish all this stuff. So I've decided to auction the ENTIRE BOX exactly the way I found it. I have not looked up any values nor have I cherrypicked anything out of this lot. I want the buyer to experience the same joy I did when I opened up this box!

*THERE ARE SOME CONDITION ISSUES*

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BELOW THIS LINE BEFORE BIDDING!

For now, I will let the pictures to some talking:

DAMAGE/CONDITION NOTES:

  • A good portion of these NP Magazines have WATER DAMAGE. A couple of these may have some staining from some other liquid, like soda.

  • Many of the early issues have detached covers.

  • All the pages on the Neo Geo periodical are detached.

  • I do not know how many of these came with posters, nor do I know how many posters are present. I see a lot of fold out maps, but not a lot of loose papers inside the magazines.

  • I also noticed that a lot of the posters have thumb tack holes (like the Final Fantasy poster).
Despite the damage, the magazines are however, still readable as I've flipped through a lot of them. The pages are wavy. It isn't practical for me to list the condition of each individual item -- If there is something specific you would like to know the condition of, please let me know and I'll get you better details. As far as I can tell, everything is pre-94/95 ish.

Out of everything in this lot, I personally had the most fun looking through the old catalogs, especially the Nintendo Gear and Neo Geo catalogs!

UPDATE - 1/28/13

Thanks for all your bids, guys.

I'd like to give an update as well as a more comprehensive listing of all the magazines in this lot. If anyone is unhappy with the condition update of this lot, I will offer bidders the opportunity to cancel their bids with my apologies.

Additionally, I've decided to up the donation to NA to 25%.

NINTENDO POWER: Please remember that most of these have apparent moisture damage, as noted in the initial description. The extent of damage to most issues is waviness to the first 1" or so to either the top or bottom edge. The ink appears to be mostly intact and pages don't stick together. I will only note damage more severe than described below. Additionally - unless noted, please assume that any non-attached map/poster inserts, if included, is not present.

  1. July/August 1989 - Detached cover and middle page. All pages appear to be present.

  2. September/October 1989 - some dogeared pages.

  3. November/December 1989

  4. January/February 1990 - Cover loose.

  5. May/June 1990 - 2" tear to cover as well as more severe water damage covering the bottom right corner (about 25% affected in addition to the top 1")

  6. July/August 1990 - cover is halfway to being torn in half and is hanging on by one staple.

  7. Volume 16 - more severe water damage affecting about top 4" of book.

  8. Volume 18 - same severe water damage. Looks like back cover stuck to something else and some ink was "torn" off.

  9. Volume 20 - same severe water damage.

  10. Volume 21 - same severe water damage.

  11. Volume 22 - same severe water damage.

  12. Volume 23 - same severe water damage

  13. Volume 24 - same severe water damage

  14. Volume 25 - same severe water damage

  15. Volume 26 - same severe water damage, in addition has some red stain on long edge of book, about 1/2" deep by 2" long at worst.

  16. Volume 27 - top AND bottom wavy, about 2" deep each side.

  17. Volume 29 - same damage as 27

  18. Volume 31 - the entire thing looks to have been immersed in water

  19. Volume 32 - same as 31, immersed in water

  20. Volume 35 - water damage there but not nearly as bad as all the others

  21. Volume 38 - top right corner damaged only? Survey card filled out and detached

  26. Volume 43 - same as 42. Cards also intact.

  27. Volume 44 - Same 2-3" top edge wavy. Has all 6 NP cards, but the coolest thing is that IT HAS THE FULL STICKER SHEET INTACT! 2 NES controller overlays (1993 birthday and circuit board designs), 1 SNES controller overlay (Earth), Game Boy overlay, letters and miscellaneous symbols.

  21. Acclaim Master Gamer periodical? Thin "pamphlet" with a cover price of $3.50. Talks about cool games and reminds me a lot of the NA E-Zine.

  23. Nintendo Power Dragon Warrior Guide. Apprx. 35 pages. Has water damage to the bottom 2" or so.

My sincere apologies for the detailed description that should have been there at the start of the auction.

AUCTION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Bidding starts at $1, with $1 increments. The auction will end on February 2nd at 10:00 PM NA time. Bids at exactly 10:00:00 PM will be accepted.

  2. Please add $23 for Priority Mail shipping within the United States. The lot will be very tightly packed and shipped in TWO Medium Flat Rate Boxes as pictured. Because this lot weighs around 35-36 pounds, I believe this is the cheapest option. If you would prefer them to be packed better, or shipped a different method, please contact me. Otherwise, you're not allowed to complain about my packing!

  3. The lot will be sold AS-IS, with damages noted.

  4. Shipping 35 lbs. out of the country is uneconomical. Even shipping to our friends in Canada will cost $66. If you really insist on paying the shipping costs, I will be happy to offer international shipping. Please contact me first before bidding for a shipping quote.

  5. 20% of the final bid will be donated to NA. I will request that you make two PayPal payments: 75% of the final bid + $23 to me, and 20% 25% directly to Dain/NA. You may send money however you feel comfortable without having to add anything for fees.
Have fun, guys!

Sorry, but unless you contacted the seller first, you are going to be held to your initial bid before edit of $20.

  • omg this is awsome! 21
  • Forty-two.
  • Do you know what volumes they are. I'm only collecting to 67. If I could knock off a large chunk of that I might do postage.

    Al.
  • I won't be able to go through them until this afternoon, but I do know for sure that the earliest issue in this lot was sometime mid-1989 (not numbered) and the last issue is 49. I was specifically looking for volume 50 yesterday after finding out that EVO was introduced/mentioned in it, but my luck ran out at 49! There are some issues missing in between, for sure.

I feel bad for relying on the pictures do the talking, so I promise to go through and make a list of the contents in more detail later today.

    Thanks again for your bids!

    Ben
  • I want to thank everyone for the bids!

I have updated the original post to include a detailed description of the lot. Upon closer inspection, there was much more water damage to all the magazines than I had initially thought, even though I did mention that "a good portion" was damaged.

I sincerely apologize that I'm only adding this now, and I want to give any bidders the opportunity to cancel their bid if it isn't up to expectations. It wasn't my intent to be deceptive if it seems to be that way.

Lastly, I'm also raising the % donated to NA to 25%.

Thanks again, and please ask questions if anything is unclear!

    Ben
  • I doubt I would win, but I formally cancel my bids.
  • I think I've created too much of a mess here, and I think the best course of action is to cancel this auction and start again. I'll contact a mod.

    My apologies
