A competent, smart repro-maker who is skilled at his craft would be able to make this game. SA1 uses JEDEC maskroms so aside from the chip being really tiny it's a drop and solder affair. It's pretty difficult, but nothing out of this world. Easier than Star Fox 2 at least.
There's no need to hack up Mario RPG (import or otherwise) or any other more desirable SA-1 carts. You can use PGA Tour 96. It has an SA-1 inside but you'll need to upgrade the backup ram from 64k to 256k.

I managed to successfully make a repro of this game using pga tour 96. I upgraded the ram from 64kb to 256kb that mario rpg requires. No copies of mario rpg (import or otherwise) gave their lives to make this happen.

I just wanted to say that I bought this one, and Askalking did a great job! This game is incredible! Amazing hack for sure and very well done all the way around.
How big is the bin? I'll make them for the right price and enough intrest. You guys set a fair price per loose cart and I'll start bulk ordering the SMRPG super famicom carts for the donor boards ASAP. I can do them in the SFC or SNES shells. Buyers choice.
