I think the best part of the trip for me was actually hanging out and talking video games with people who actually gave a fuck. Well that, and watching every single person around the table shut up and stare, open mouthed, every time Thor opened his mouth to talk that first night there.
Heh! Oh yeah, the ol' poolside Q&A... that was super-cool. I think that the best part was hearing Thor talk about whether or not the other champs at the time were actually cool or complete and total douchebags!
I'm still taken aback with how cool that everyone that I met seemed to be... you guys certainly rock, and on top of that, really care and know your stuff, which is a nice bonus!
And the afterparty... wow, so many cool people, and special thanks to 8bitking for introducing us to the glory that is the Lube Tube. Hope you all had a safe trip home!
The expo was great! Didn't need to walk away with anything other than the memories of meeting such a great bunch of guys. Sign me up for next year without a doubt.
One thing bothers me though..how in the hell did I miss Penguin?? 8 hours in the same building and never had the pleasure..........next year I guess.
I'm actually a little worried about TFGZ, we hadn't heard from him when he was a no-show and I haven't gotten any PM or anything since we returned. We all hope he's all right and nothing major happened...
I was talking to Dain yesterday on the phone...and he said he thinks he remembered that TFGZ wasn't planning on coming, but just wanted to sponsor the event...he isn't 100% sure, lol. We have all just been so busy.
Speaking of vendors who didn't show - the blue-haired-kid and his bulkier sidekick from that local chain you tried to solicit came around to my table a few hours in. They immediately started bitching and moaning, asking what the big deal about "your boy over there" (referring to Thor) and grumping about random different non-things. Did you get any inkling in talking to them that they resented the Expo for stealing business from them or something? They just seemed like a couple of emo "I-hate-everything" kids to me, they weren't the ones making the decision were they?
I just don't understand how any business-minded individual would pass up that kind of opportunity. I think part of what made them sour was seeing how well everything was going. They probably realized what they missed and were talking themselves out of it. They were the only two unhappy people I saw though

You know, I didn't get to meet ole Quack, I mean Penguin, either until the after party!

Neither of them were the powers that be at the local store...they were just low levels guys. No clue why they didnt come though. The area manager said he planned on making an appearance but I never saw him at all. ~~NGD

Damn dude I diddn't even know you were there! lol I have no idea how we missed each other in there, Next year deff, were you at the after party?
For the record, dangevin is not a short Asian boy. I saw him with my own eyes!

lol and now there's photographic proof as well, all over the friggin boards One more thing -- I realized all to late that I didn't get a hug from you, just a handshake. Save one for next year, I guess!
-I ended up buying a *TON* of stuff at the Expo (a nice handful of CIBs, a Rodland rental box (!), and a few other things), and I'm not sure where I'm going to put it all, especially the 3 boxed Miracle Pianos (!) that I bought.
Overall, it was great fun. Looking forward to next year. If it's in Knoxville, I'll be there for sure. If it's anywhere else, I may have to book a flight .
Just curious, why 'd you buy that many Miracle Pianos? You must have gotten em cheap?
Check the AGE Expo finds thread in Finders Keepers .
Yeah man, seeing the Shroominator in the flesh was the highlight of the show. I was talking to the VGA guy at one point when all of a sudden the little dude walks right up and tears into him about how shitty grading sealed games is... I look over to see who's got the balls for such action and there he is: the shroomster beside me at last!
Oh man, my only regret from the whole weekend is not getting my picture taken with the Shroomy one. The Magic of Shroomzarahade is my own personal hero, and now I'll never be able to look at Poweraaaay the same.
It was really cool meeting the Shroomster, and nice chatting with his folks as well. Seemed like a very cool decent set of folks for sure, very glad he was able to make the trip.
I'd like to say that the Expo was great. The After-Party was even better, getting to know a lot of the people there. I didn't buy a lot, but my friend won the SE Ditka Cartridge (8bitking). I was dissappointed that there were no "Big Dollar" Games for sale, but The event was NOT dissappointing. Hopefully next time there is another event soon. I saw Thor get 790 thousand, I didn't see him get over a million. I think Penguin beat his score (in my opinion).
The expo was GREAT!!! I got a bunch of really good finds, got to meet Thor, as well as many of the peeps from the site!!! the show was good, winning the Gold Ditka SE made it AMAZING!!!
