Danger of Google ?!

Am I the only one who is concerned about Google gaining so much information, that is becomes dangerous ?

Google: They know what you search for on the internet

Gmail: They can read your emails

Google route: They can monitor the places you go to (and where you from)

Picasa google: They can see images of you or your family , friends....

Gtalk: They can monitor your conversations

Google calendar: They can see info like your girlfriends birthday , when you are going on vacation,....

Google docs: Various information.

And they have much more services like ; blogger, Igoogle, gmail mobile, google toolbar, google desktop, google earth.....

Now if you use a couple of this services, they could (if they wanted to) gain some serious info about you. From the the 7 first examples I use 5 of them (because I like their services) . Should I be worried for my privacy ?

  • Yeah it is interesting isn't it. I pulled up Google Earth for the first time the other night and zoomed in on my work and saw my car in the parking lot clear as day. Sheesh... what was that Will Smith movie... Enemy of the State. Scary!!

But all that being said I would like to see Google Auctions. :-) GO FIGURE!
  • Not just google, it is the internet period. Yeah Google may have an advantage because of there software but if someone who knows what they are doing wants to find out about you it isn't that hard to do really. Most people feel safe on the internet and really shouldn't it is a good way to get killed or robbed. I often think about how many people have my address, I give it out for trades and on ebay of course. Scary when you think about it....

  • Hehe... one reason I don't put up pics of my collection Jason. Think about that up to this point people have only been stealing the pictures of your collection... what happens if someone decides one day that they really would like a NES collection for themselves or to resell cause of the high prices. They have your address and a picture inventory from your website. I have always thought about doing what you have on zoomshare but never done it, ... yet. To this point I've already had 6 large packages of NES stuff stolen off my doorstep. Don't want to escalate to burglary. I know that sounds paranoid... and I'm really not, just haven't wanted to take the chance.
  • In NGD's case, there is no going back. Even if he would pull down his zoomshare site, you still have his MTV article, NintendoAge , Kotaku , Digg , makezine,....

NGD, you should start thinking about moving image

PS: Giant NES controller ==> http://www.geekologie.com/2007...ntroller_perfect_f.php
  • Wow, that would save Jason some time if he could buy that one he'd only have to copy it for two player games on his 8 footer! LoL
  • I guess that is what alarm systems are for image I have often feared my zoomshare site might land me into trouble at some point, but you can't live in cave your whole life. That is why you insure your collection, plus there is always someone home at my house 99% of the time.

Like in Erik's case, we haven't seen pics of his whole collection ever. But in all reality we all know he has a shit ton of stuff so he is just as at risk as I am, or any of us are really. Being somewhat paranoid is a good idea, but it can't control your life...(goes to make sure door is dead-bolted)

  • I don't think Erik has a collection. It's all a big scam! I think he's just got a room full of cats which he feeds games while wearing a cape while practicing his golf swing!
  • Those must be some hungry cats for all those games Erik buys. image

  • Hehe... you have a point Jason! :-)

And for you Chris I'll deal with you later my friend... giving away my secrets.... plus my cat only eats sealed games which I do as a favor to Bronty for all the awesome stuff he's helped me acquire. The more sealed stuff the cat eats the more valuable Dan's collection gets! LOL
  • Sorry, Kenny -- didn't want to edit your post, but phonetically, your post mentioned two words that the secret service doesn't like in the same sentence. I don't want us shut down image

  • I wanted to add something about this topic -- Google Payments has been *banned* from use on ebay (now THAT's funny, but not really). I think ebay seriously fears Google from competing with them, as they should. Be afraid, be VERY afraid!

Well, call me paranoid then. I have 99% of my stuff in a storage unit for exactly these reasons. Major pain in the ass retrieving stuff, and costs some monthly $ too, but better than having games all over my place and fearing a break in.

image Is this serious ? Reminds me of that 14 year old girl who got arrested by the secret service while she was in school. She had written some anti-"Bosh" propaganda (replace the U with a O image)
  • I got my good old buddy guarding my stuff got a mouth full of teeth like a crocodile. wasnt releated to gaming but one night someone came up on my porch about 2am. the dog almost went thru the bay window. whoever it was sure didnt waste any time making tracks. People have a natural fear of dogs..Ive rolled up on big free for alls and seen cans of pepper spary used, night stick etc but the fights continue..as soon as the k9 unit pulls up and the dog is going crazy the fighters cant stop fast enough.

Also after a few football games weve had a hundred and more officers to try and keep fans off the field and they still rushed the field. 2 dogs at each goal post and no one came near.

guess the moral of the story is a dog is mans best friend. you could even teach him to play video games (well maybe not)
  • (mental note, don't try to rob Doug! .... end mental note)
