Cancelled Tomb Raider CE

I'm not sure what it is, but I've never been so excited for a game, then done this much of a 180. Let me get this out there. I love Lara Croft. The Tomb Raider series was one of my first Playstation experiences along with Medievil and Gran Turismo. The series will always hold a special place in my heart. But the way the videos have been looking for this game are just NOT Tomb Raider. I'm all for rebooting a franchise and starting fresh, but this doesn't even some like that. While it may be a great game, I can't help it'll be what Socom 4 was to the Socom franchise. So in turn I've cancelled my order for Tomb Raider. Nothing about the CE would even maje me want to keep it so I'll gladly wait for my Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory CE instead.

I guess my question is has there ever been a time where you guys cancelled a pre-order after debating over what the game or CE offers?

  • Don't think I've ever cancelled an order. The only reason I would cancel would be if I found it cheaper elsewhere but I bargain hunt before I purchase...although buying Warriors Orochi 3 was a mistake. It didn't exist anywhere around £20 apart from CEX. And I was being outbid on ebay. What happens? I order it from CEX. It comes, works fine, thankfully. Then two shops have it in their sale and another on ebay I was looking at goes for £15...like, omg!
  • Well Tim, I've cancelled quite a few pre-orders for CEs for a variety of reasons but never because I thought I might be disappointed with the game. To be honest, the qualty of a title is not even a consideration for me because I just enjoy CEs regardless of the game

The way I operate - even though I've vowed never to pre-order again on many occassions - is to pre-order a CE and then decide on two things :

    1) Can I afford it ??  2) Can I pick it up cheaper later on ??

The first criterion is easy. Either I've got the cash or I ain't so if I'm skint the pre-order is cancelled But the second one's a bit more tricky. I've found out to my cost over the years that trying to second guess what might hit the bargain bins somewhere down the line is a bit of a gambler's game. I've had some spectacular successes and some dismal failures but at the end of the day it's all in the game . . .

     . . .swings and roundabouts.
  • I have to say I don't really see the value in a lot of special editions anymore. A lot of the content I'd get with them I never use anyway. If anything I would got of a special edition that has an Artbook/Making of DVD or Soundtrack. But when tens to happen is the artbook is tiny and the soundtracks are only samples. So I think rather than just changing my mind on a certain Special Edition, I have gone off them entirely. I think the only truly decent one I have gotten is the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, in which you get a full A4 180+ paged artbook which I love.
  • I very rarely cancel pre-orders for CE's unless I know my finances aren't going to cover it. Usually whenever I do cancel it's usually something that can easily be picked up on eBay at a later date. Or a fighting game, which are usually over-priced anyhow, and often drop to half several weeks later

There are some CE's I will not cancel, and I would rather go overdrawn than cancel them. Borderlands 2 Loot Chest was one. Ni No Kuni was another. The list goes on. The kind of CE's that you know are going to be rare and sought after in the future, and are must-have items, which usually end up selling for double their RRP upon release day
