come on basil. think about it. if an alien race has enough technology to create spaceships, dont you think they would have more powerful weapons than us?
Haha, why does it have to be spaceships? Remember our moon landing? It was just a couple of dudes hopping down off some rickety shuttle and bouncing around in the dark. Why would these aliens be so much better? If it's a "Battle of the Universe" why does it have to happen entirely around Earth with the "aliens" being the aggressors and mankind being the meek little pasties? Aliens don't exist anyways (uh oh... can o' worms...) but you boys sure have taken hollywood's construction of how it "ought to be" pretty seriously...
Basil - you have to remember that the moon landing was our FIRST attempt to land on an extraterrestrial body. Of course it was primitive. By the time you have the ability to travel light-years in a reasonable amount of time...I would hope you were in possession of more sophisticated technology.
I think the whole this is moot, though. Our planet is way the hell out in the middle of nowhere. So far, we have not discovered any planet in the galaxy with the same atmosphere type AND gravity levels, so it's probably safe to say that anything out there wouldn't be particularly interested in us anyway, at least not yet. Maybe once we have the ability to actuallly get outside of our solar system at a reasonable speed and carrying capacity, there may be adverse reaction to us colonizing other planets...who knows.
If it's just a war over resources, there are plenty of dead planets made of the same materials. No sentient beings would fight over resources when they could get them somewhere else safer and easier.
