I have kinda given up collecting at about 140 games. I'll be selling a big portion of my stuff soon. I realized that I don't have the space for collecting, and I didn't foresee any near future where I could have the space. I still have a list of things I will eventually buy, though. Now, I'm just after the really tough games; to play and to beat. Contra Hard Corps is next because, in the past month, I've beaten Contra and Super C on NES without using their respective life codes. I'm super excited about this new goal because it results in me enjoying my games more often and becoming insanely good at the same time.

Good luck. That game is tough as nails. Let me know if you accomplish that goal.
My goal is to stop collecting more stuff if I don't think I'll ever get around to playing or using it.

Yeah man, that is a great goal indeed. There is nothing wrong with collecting as it can be fun and exciting in itself. Though, it can also blind-sight a man, making him loose track of why he started collecting in the first place becoming overwhelming and a somewhat nonmeaningful march into a land of financial hardship. Buying games is like a drug, you get that hit, and before too long that thrill has quickly escaped you and all you can think about is the next hit. Oh what a vicious cycle and a harsh mistress.
I guess I'm going for a complete CIB US genesis collection as I'm already about 300 deep. I had more but I sold them for space but now I have the room so it's back to the drawing board. I will also be collecting all of the taiwanese porno mahjong games and I'm missing a few. After that I might go for the exclusive titles for each region but I'll just have to see when I get there. I'm also planning on making a few arcade cabs, a cocktail stlye with a ds-16 and a 4 man mame cab.

Yes, you're really spot on with that. Also, when you say you're going to stop and you get just one pop. It starts over again! Actually, I just got a good deal on Brett Hull Hockey '95, and then I realized that put me at three or four games away from having all the US released hockey titles in box. I may just tie that one up, as it was basically the first goal I set when I started my collection. It's easily attainable at this point, and I'll just have to compromise for the No Puck version of Mario Lemieux Hockey. Then after that, I will focus on trimming down the collection. Oh! Speaking of that. The dog pissed on my Genesis 3, and I threw it in the trash bin (and then drank until I didn't care). So, the trimming has begun!

Oh, most definitely. I've played it 10 or so times on an emulator, and I only made it to the second level once in those attempts. While I like Hard Corps better than Contra III on SNES, it is so much more difficult and kinda hard to continue playing.
Yeah, it's a good sign to stop when you realize you are buying things you know are only going to sit on the shelf.

Ha ha, damn that sucks. Though I think you have found the answer to quitting game collecting. Try to get your dog to piss on everything because then you will have to throw it all away.
I had that model 3 for a practical reason. It fit on top of my DVD player along with the NES perfectly (with the tiny PSOne on top the NES). It was a very space efficient setup. I just happened to want to play on the big screen in the living room one day, and I left it hooked up on the floor. The dog just came by to jack over my day while I had my back turned. I know his evil ways.

That's why I only ever buy girl dogs, cause they don't cock their leg on anything. They'll only piss on the flat ground be it inside or hopefully outside. Plus I hate how on boy dogs they get that little hairy bit hanging off the end of their lipstick dong which is always moist with urine. Very unappealing when you are trying to eat your dinner with him laying next to you legs up wanting a belly rub with his wet wang of doom staring you in the eyes like an old western stand off.
my goal right now is to get all the games i find fun to play for the megadrive/genesis, saturn and dreamcast
I´m nearly complete with the saturn i got deep fear left from the europe realeses but i have yet ALOT of import
shooters to get and a copy of super tempo if i ever find a decent priced one.
I have alot of work with my megadrive collection i need to find better copies of a lot of gems from my childhood (got most of my games back in the day from markets carts only)
I just started collecting for my dreamcast last year and i have only scratched the surface of games i must have.
After i get my hands on a nice copy of deep fear i will focus on the megadrive and not rush on finding those saturn shooters.
I hope to get the time soon to organise the gameroom so my games are displayed in all their glory as they deserve.
To eventually one day have a CIB Genesis collection! I'm in no rush, however. I enjoy playing my faves, and picking up anything eye catching along the way : ).
My main goal right now is trying to get all the Saturn & Genesis console and accessories boxed (US/Euro). Also desperately looking for a Saturn Kiosk,Sega Display Cabinet, and Sega adverts to no avail.
I really just want the games I like. I'd prefer them to be CIB, but if I find a good deal on something that I want, I'm not going to pass it up because it's loose (unless it's a disc based game). Disc based games must at least have an original case.
My goal is small as of now. I'm looking to complete my Resident Evil set (up to 4) and pick up RE2 sealed for PS1, RE Code Veronica for Dreamcast sealed and maybe RE2 for N64. Edit: Oh and a couple protos but that all depends on the funds available
Absolutely, I already have all of them except 4 and 2. I'm playing the patient game and trying to score 2 for a cheap price but they seem to always hit at least $30.
Comments
1. Complete my cart only SNES set. (98% done)
2. Complete my cart only Game.com set. (20% done)
3. Track down every Gamecube variant in existence. (Hard to say, I'm guessing 90% done)
4. Complete my cart only 32x set. (65% done)
5. Complete my cart only Game Gear Set. (Just started this two or three weeks ago, about 50% done)

NES- Go from 400 to 500 CIB's, I'm already half way there & Get my Black Boxes down to 1 or done, down to 2.
Genesis - From 50 to 100+ CIB's or 200+ total.
Other- Something cool like a NES test cart, sign, kiosk, or anything along those lines...

I also need to upgrade the long box for my RE1.
