An SNES EVO steal - and bad timing

What a difference a few weeks can make.

A while back (about a month ago), I scored a copy of EVO: Search for Eden at a local pawn shop for $5.  It was cart only, with damage mainly to the back of the cart (a few splotches of dried pant or White-Out).  At the time, the cart was selling for around $100.

I knew a member on another forum who needed a copy, and had helped me out in the past (sold me the manual to Harvest Moon for only $7 to complete my copy).  Given the damage, I sold it to him for $50 plus two SNES needs (a Super Game Boy and Super Mario All-Stars; around $75 in value all together).

Today, I check eBay and see that carts are selling for $175+.  Whoops!

  • Helping someone out who helped you out in the past while still getting $70 back out if it doesn't seem like an error to me.
  • You feel like an idiot now because you didn't squeeze out every last penny you could've had, but helped someone who had helped you before instead?

Or do you mean you feel like an idiot for making this thread?

  •

yea selling a harvest moon manual for $7 was the guy doing you a solid for sure. No harm in letting him have a good deal too.

  • I agree with the above posts. Considering you got the game for $5, anything more than $5 is extra. I cant understand why everyone is concerned with getting every red cent out of everyone else. Its all about helping out others. You even said yourself whoever it is hooked you up, complaining that you did the same thing to him seems really odd.
  • Not like you got completely shafted, you just cut him a great deal for doing you a favor in the past. I might be regretful if I had like, given it to him for free not knowing the value, but I wouldn't be worried about selling it for $75 as a return favor.
  • No; I don't feel like an idiot for helping him - I'm glad he got something he needed for his collection. I feel like an idiot for the bad timing I guess. In the few weeks between selling and now, the value has almost doubled.

    My wording wasn't the best.
  • Screw the timing.

    Who cares?

I picked up a Mega Man X3 for $3 and sold it to my cousin for $20. Only because I needed $20 to pay back something. If I didn't, he would have gotten it for $3. That was when the cart was $80-100, now it's a lot more. I don't care. I'd still sell it to him (or anyone else who truly NEEDED it) for $3.
  • I'll keep that in mind, Mindl3ss
  • Friends help out friends and most of us are all friends here on NA.

    Any time.

If I have something rare and have the means to let it go cheap, I will hook someone up who truly wants it for their collection. My only condition (and it's obviously on the honor system) is that they hook someone else up in the future if they decide to part with it.

If I'm at a point where I need money or I'm trying to raise funds for a specific thing, I may try to make a few bucks. Otherwise, my deal is someone else's deal.
  • Good Guy Titus

Kidding, but that's a swell code to live by!
  • I wish you guys were my friends
  • Coincidentally X2 and 3 are actually some of my most wanted games, haha. I only played X for the first time last year and instantly loved it and bought the rest of the series from X4 to X8, X2 and 3 are a little out of my price range though. Certainly good looking out on your part, I try to give people on here the hook up but I dunno that I could let stuff go for nothing like that if it came right down to it, lol.
  • Here's bad timing for ya. A few years back I bought my Girlfriend (at the time) a NES system and a little starter set of games for Christmas. She liked Disney stuff, so, those were the games I got for her. Ducktales 1 & 2, Chip 'n' Dale 1 & 2, along with Zelda, Tetris, and Mario. At the time the games cost me $40 total, and the system was $45. We broke up a year or so after that, and the prices for Ducktales 2 and Chip 'n' Dale 2 were already on the way up... Needless to say, I wish I hadn't given them to her as "gifts". I doubt she even knows what their worth to this day...
  • I scored a loose N64 Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine box for $7.50 a month ago.

I then sold it to a friend here for $7.50.
  • Wtf I just sold an EVO like 3 weeks ago for $120 with free ship and now they're going crazy on eBay! Just my luck haha.

Hey man, since I joined this website and always felt like I have a cousin somewhere on this forum and it so happened I still need MMX3 for $3...

  • Good thing I still have my EVO then. Who wants to buy it for whatever crazy number they're going for right now?
  • I got a copy of EVO for $5 at my local Play N Trade about a year, year and a half ago. Sold it on eBay for around $70...
  • Yeah I don't mind the fact that I helped someout by selling when I did and at that price. It is just crazy how much the game appreciated in value over a few weeks time. Complete copies are going from $400-600.
  • Hey man ,you did a good thing in helping out a fellow collecter. It should just make you feel all warm inside to help out someone ,especially when they helped you out with a killer deal. The manual for Harvest Moon is not easy to find in good condition especially nor is it cheap! You did the right thing bro!I've done deals like this on more than one occasion.Hell one of my friends sold me my current copy of E.V.O for $85 knowing it's true value ,and it's in near mint condition!
  • I got a CIB copy of E.V.O. at the pawn shop for $10, and I've been using at a coaster for my coffee mug ever since ; )

Of course, I'm just playing! You did the right thing, sir.

I was about to have a heart attack with your post about using a CIB E.V.O for a coaster ,until I read the bottom part!Btw congrats on that awesome find for $10.WOW!
  • Its kinda funny now that i think about it i found an EVO cart once for $3 at an indoor flea market in North Carolina when i was on vacation. (only one i have ever found) I had it for a couple years, beat it, enjoyed it, and Im more of a NES guy. so last summer i hooked up my buddy with it for $55, and it was minty. Cause he was more of a SNES guy and he had already snatched up a nice box and manual for it and needed the cart. I look now and yea looks like i tripled in value lol.

Its good helping out others that help you etc. , for this xmas he gave me a cib trolls in treasure island! pretty sweet!
